Overview

Hiring for Light and Medium Tow Truck Operators. MUST live close to ALTOONA or NEAR the fairgrounds, because you have to be on scene in 20 minutes in Altoona. So no out of town or commuting will work. Meaning, you have to be in the tow truck and on scene within 20 minutes of a call. Job details differ within each driver. Trucks will be taken home on your nights, so they have to be PLUGGED IN for the winter and stored at your home, so you need room for a Flatbed. you Must have CLEAN Driving Record. Duties

Operate tow trucks, including flatbed and other specialized vehicles, to recover and transport vehicles safely. Load and unload vehicles using appropriate equipment such as forklifts or winches while adhering to safety protocols. Conduct basic automotive diagnostics to assess vehicle condition prior to towing or repair. Perform routine inspections and maintenance on tow trucks to ensure optimal operation. Provide exceptional customer service by assisting clients professionally during stressful situations. Manage conflict resolution effectively when dealing with distressed vehicle owners or other stakeholders. Ensure compliance with all traffic laws and safety regulations during transportation operations. Assist with automotive repairs or mechanical troubleshooting as needed, leveraging mechanic experience when applicable. Maintain accurate records of all towing activities, including documentation of vehicle condition and location.

Skills

Strong mechanical knowledge with experience in automotive repair and diagnostics. Proficiency in operating tow trucks, especially flatbed models, with a solid understanding of manual transmissions. Experience with commercial driving licenses (CDL) or equivalent certifications preferred. Ability to load & unload vehicles efficiently using appropriate equipment such as forklifts or winches. Excellent driving skills with a clean driving record; familiarity with towing regulations and safety standards. Customer service skills to handle interactions professionally under stressful circumstances. Conflict management abilities to resolve disputes calmly and effectively. Mechanical aptitude with experience in automotive diagnostics, repairs, or mechanic work is a plus. Pay: $18.00 - $30.00 per hour
