Job Description

The Early Education Program at Sara Holbrook Community Center (SHCC) works in collaboration with Champlain Valley Head Start (CVHS) to provide a place for young children 15 months - 5 years of age to learn and grow in an enriching toddler classroom. The Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting the classroom teachers in developing and implementing a program of activities that promote the social, emotional, physical, and academic development of each child. This position works cooperatively with the Teachers, and other staff, to discuss and aide in the implementation of daily plans in accordance with the current curriculum, incorporating the Vermont Early Learning Standards.

Description

• 
  Establish a nurturing relationship with children, providing a safe and enriching environment
• Assist in planning and implementing classroom curriculum through the use of Creative Curriculum, the Pyramid Model, and Second Step
• Assist teachers in collecting observations to be entered into Teaching Strategies Gold to track students\' progress and development
• Responsible for assisting the teachers with the full implementation of SHCC policies and procedures, Head Start Performance Standards, and VT State Licensing Regulations in the day-to-day operations of the classroom environment
• Observe each child daily to assess skills, interests, and needs and use this information to facilitate learning and growth.
• Provide support in completing the Ages and Stages Questionnaires and other developmental and behavioral assessment tools
• Participate in daily setup and clean up of classroom environment
• Participate in team meetings, one-on-one supervision meetings and professional development trainings
• Observe and/or participate in parent-teacher conferences or other student-related meetings as appropriate
• Establish a positive relationship with each child\xe2\x80\x99s family and share information about the child\xe2\x80\x99s day
• Engage in the Active Supervision of children at all times
• Accept the role and responsibilities of being a Mandated Reporter for child abuse and neglect

  QUALIFICATIONS

• 
  Meet or exceed the requirements of an Infant Toddler CDA Credential
• Experience working with children ages 15 months to 3 years of age

• Successful completion of a Comprehensive Background Check and Fingerprinting
• Be familiar with the Vermont Early Childhood Licensing and Regulations.
• Complete an IPDP and update it annually
• Ability to relate and form positive relationships with young children
• Knowledge and experience in early childhood development and behavior management
• Consistently demonstrate a positive attitude with youth, parents, and co-workers
• Maintains boundaries and has the ability to set limits, maintaining the confidentiality
• Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with a team as well as act independently
• Excels at corresponding professionally and efficiently with parents/guardians and community partners
• Ability to identify and respond to the needs of the program and seek support and guidance when needed
• Commitment to social justice and openness to learn and grow in our practices with youth & families
• Excellent organizational skills as well as a flexible demeanor
• Highly effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to meet people with ease
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Applications. Ability to adapt and learn new technologies as needed
• Knowledge of and ability to administer basic First Aid
• Follow and uphold all daily safety standards and emergency procedures
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
