TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

Effective upon board approval for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year. Term of employment shall be 200 days each year thereafter. In accordance with West Virginia Code 18A-2-7b, Pocahontas County Schools will be implementing the

"Stay Put Rule." The WV Legislature has determined that frequent teacher changes--especially in elementary grades--are not in the best interest of students. As a result, the Legislature intends to minimize personnel transfers between professional positions within the 20 days leading up to the start of the instructional term. However, the county board, based on the superintendent's recommendation, may approve filling a position during this period if it is deemed to serve the best interest of the students.

CERTIFICATION/QUALIFICATIONS

:

1. Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specializations and grade levels pursuant to WV Code 18A-3-2

2. Reading specialization certification and/or experience in elementary ELA instruction preferred

2. Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code 18-5-15c and/or 18A-3-10, as appropriate.

3. Meet the qualifications outlined in WV Code 18A-3-2a.

4. Performance expectations as described below.





Responsibilities:

Title I



Teach and supervise students, maintain all appropriate records, accept reasonable assignment necessary for a successful program. Implement programs of study, foster a classroom climate conducive to learning, utilize instructional management systems models that increase student learning, monitors student progress towards mastery of instructional goals and objectives, communicates effectively within the educational community and with parents on a regular basis, meets professional repsonibilities, and demonstrates competency in the knowledge and implementation of technology standards.+ Provide targeted instruction.
+ Assess student needs.
+ Comply with the specifications of Title I.
+ Collaborate with the regular classroom teachers in the design and modification of the instructional program as needed.
+ Utilize the co-teaching model, 1:1 instruction, and small group instruction as needed.
+ Encourage family engagement through suggested home activities, conferences and workshops.
+ Prepare and maintain documentation for federal program monitoring.
