Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:





The Tire Technician is responsible for the maintenance of the fleet tires. This position must maintain tires accordingly to DOT specifications and regulations, repair and replace tires as needed, and conduct daily inspections of the tires. The Tire Technician must also operate the tire balancer change machine.



RESPONSIBILITIES:





Provides a variety of duties including but not limited to the following:



Inspect and repair tires Mount and dismount wheel ends Safely lift vehicle Monitor tread depth for entire fleet Organize tire inventory Replace Studs Use a wheel balancer Use a dismount machine Use a manual/wonder bar (dismount & remount) Patch and plug tires Visually inspect brakes when tires are off the vehicles Complete work orders




KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:





Ability to work with minimal supervision Must be a self-starter and able to follow rigorous schedule Ability to use power tools Understand and follow written and oral instructions Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work Be reliable, have a good attitude and good organizational skills Must submit to a background check Must successfully pass a drug and alcohol test




EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:






High School Diploma or GED equivalent Possession of a valid TX Driver License Knowledge of tread depth gage & pressure gage Knowledge of rim sizes Hand tools - inch air gun




WORK ENVIRONMENT:





Work is performed primarily in a shop environment; Chemicals (Proposition 65 Regulations) occasional field environment with some travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; incumbents may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS:





Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a mechanic shop environment; walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and twist; push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 60 to 135 pounds; operate assigned equipment and vehicles; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.



SUMMARY:





Daily inspection of fleet tires. Maintain, replace and repair tires as needed for all company vehicles. Maintain tires according to DOT specifications and regulations. Operate the tire balancer change machine.







ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:





Although additional duties and related tasks may be assigned, the essential duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:



Inspect and repair tires


Know how to mount and dismount wheel ends


Safely lift vehicle


Monitor tread depth for entire fleet


Organize tire inventory


Replace Studs




ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:





Ability to use wheel balancer


Ability dismount machine


Manual/wonder bar (dismount & remount)


Ability to patch and plug tires


Ability to visually inspect brakes when tires are off the vehicles

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to work with minimal supervision

Must be dependable, have a good attitude and good organizational skills

Must currently possess the eligibility to work in the United States



Education / Experience





High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Knowledge of tread depth gauge & pressure gauge

Knowledge of rim sizes

Hand tools - -1-inch air gun

Knowledge of proper technique and tools needed to mount and dismount tires from rim

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs



Demonstrates strong general math skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Performs these operations with units of American currency, Regular and Military time, and imperial measurements of weight, volume, and distance.
