The primary purpose of the Thoracic Cardiovascular Operating Room Registered Nurse is to work under the direction of the CV Surgeon and in collaboration with the CVOR Coordinator and team in accordance with hospital policy and appropriate laws and regulations. Responsible for nursing care of assigned patients to provide a safe operation with optimal patient outcomes during the intraoperative phase of the CV perioperative experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
An integral member of the TCVOR team who maintains positive working relationships with patients, families and coworkers inter- and intra-departmentally
Ability to perform a wide variety of professional services in surgical procedures related to cardiac, vascular and thoracic
Performs circulating functions including: initial patient assessment, monitoring, recording and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care of patient during intraoperative experience
Ensure that sterile procedures are followed, necessary equipment and medications are available and that patient safety is assured at all times
Assists in setup of TCVOR room in combination with entire TCVOR team
Possess active listening skills
Compassionate non-judgmental patient caregiver and advocate
Serves as a mentor, preceptor and assists in training of others in regards to team development
Adheres to policies, procedures and guidelines of the department and hospital
Maintains professional communication skills with physicians, anesthesia, nurses and technicians
Adheres to time and attendance policies
Available for assigned/needed on-call

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Nurses - Graduate of an approved school of Nursing; BSN preferred
Preferred experience as a TCVOR Registered Nurse- Circulator in open heart, thoracic, vascular procedures with knowledge of those procedures
Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing
BLS required, ACLS preferred
CNOR certification preferred
Physical Demands/Work Environment
6am-3pm M-F or hours as required by job
Call Required; On call weekends, evenings, holidays and off-shifts
Must be able to tolerate physically and mentally demanding work
