At Utah Valley University, the part-time Crisis Therapist plays a vital role in fostering student well-being and resilience. Under the direction of the Director of Crisis Services, this position provides immediate, compassionate, and professional support to individuals experiencing mental, emotional, or behavioral distress. The Crisis Therapist utilizes clinical expertise to assess needs, deliver effective interventions, and connect students with appropriate ongoing care and resources.

As part of a collaborative and student-centered team, the Crisis Therapist helps ensure that every individual has access to timely, equitable, and supportive mental health services that promote personal growth and academic success.
Summary of Responsibilities

Individual Crisis Support - Provides intake, triage, psychological first aid, suicide assessments, and crisis response and safety planning. Uses the least restrictive environment, trauma-informed care, and counsel on access to lethal means, CALM, to de-escalate and ensure the safety of the individual.
Evaluates for high risk, potential violence, and suicide. Initiates and coordinates welfare checks through the Police as needed. Provides information and connection to resources for ongoing support. Group and Campus Crisis Support - Provides group crisis response, including psychological first aid, and outreach in response to critical incidents. Provides information and connection to resources for ongoing support.
Consultation - Provides consultation services to both teammates within the Crisis Services Team/ Student Health Services, as well as to individuals and leaders throughout UVU and the community. Training, Education, and Outreach - Provides training, education, and resources to individuals and groups throughout UVU both as a proactive and preventive measure, and in response to critical incidents. Maintains professional licensure.
Other Duties - Performs other job-related duties as assigned, which might include clinical supervision.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a Master's or Doctorate in the Mental Health field (i.e., Psychology, Social work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Counseling) and two years of full-time experience in a clinical setting, and meets the requirements of a Training Supervisor as required by the State of Utah. Must be fully licensed in the state of Utah and able to provide clinical care without clinical supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a Master's or Doctorate in the Mental Health field (i.e., Psychology, Social work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Counseling) and five years of full-time experience in a clinical setting as a licensed clinician. Experience providing crisis intervention, suicide risk assessments, and trauma-informed care.
Licenses/Certifications:
Maintains current licensure requirements as a Mental Health Clinician in the selected field of mental health specialty under licensure requirements and laws set by the DOPL and the State of Utah.
