Job Description

The Staff Accountant will perform timely and accurate transaction processing, account analysis, and reconciliations and schedules, and other assignments related to accounting and finance.

This is a full time, benefits eligible, position with a hiring range of $X - $X per hour.

Core Responsibilities:

Reviews and reconciles all cash transaction details between the bank statement and the general ledger including (but not limited to) ACH, wires, credit card, payroll, cashier's office activity. Reviews student revenue transactions from the Student Account sub-ledger. Ensures all transactions reconcile monthly including clearing accounts. Reviews routine and non-routine campus-wide journal entries with a focus on cash reconciliation, ensuring that each transaction is valid, complete, accurate, properly authorized, classified and recorded in the appropriate period. Prepares account reconciliations and investigates variances, for review and approval by the Senior Accountant Performs various treasury functions, including the reconciliation of gifts of marketable securities.

Requirements

Degree (Bachelor's preferred) in accounting, business, finance, or other related field. Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to articulate strategies and implement policies; budget management; demonstrated ability to organize information, time, widely disparate priorities, and complex issues so as to accomplish multiple, on-going, and unrelated time critical tasks. Must have well-developed interpersonal and human behavior skills to communicate effectively the importance of timely and accurate transaction processing. The Staff Accountant must be able to gain the cooperation of the many diverse departments, and to coordinate efforts to accomplish the goal of providing timely and accurate information while providing exceptional service to constituents. The Staff Accountant is routinely involved in highly sensitive matters; errors in judgment could adversely affect the financial integrity and the reputation of Middlebury College.0 Experience in a business environment (higher education or public accounting experience preferred) with significant interpersonal contacts requiring independent professional judgment; operations including enterprise financial systems, spreadsheet, and word processing.
