Job Title:
Maintenance Repairworker Supervisor: Director of Support Services FLSA Status: Nonexempt
Summary:
Performs skilled and semi-skilled work in several trades in the maintenance, construction and repair of buildings, equipment and grounds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • May work in support of journeyman in the areas of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler, carpentry and other trade positions in the district including grounds.
  • Maintains and makes repairs to buildings, equipment and grounds.
  • Preparation and painting as needed.
  • May operate grounds equipment such as mowers, trimmers, tractors, etc.
  • May operate the equipment and works as necessary to support electrical and mechanical, HVAC and other technicians.
  • Makes repairs and adjustments to plumbing equipment and apparatus in school plants, such as replacing broken pipe, cleaning plugged drains, flushing sewer lines and replacing faucets, washers and gaskets, etc.
  • May inspect and maintain ventilating systems to ensure proper heat and air flow and checks room temperature, service fans, compressors and pumps oiling, greasing, packing and cleaning as necessary, etc.
  • May fabricate and maintain metal structures and equipment using welders and other appropriate tools or machines.
  • Repairs locks, doors, door jams, windows, panic devices as needed and may maintain alarm systems and key maintenance records.
  • Maintains tools and equipment in good working condition.
  • Understands and complies with safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintains competency in all position responsibilities.
  • Complies with all safety and work rules, policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for proper utilization, operation and maintenance of all department resources.
  • Provides support to other positions as needed.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as appropriate with little or no supervision.
  • Other related duties may be assigned.
Marginal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs minor vehicle and equipment repairs.
  • Works in support of grounds as necessary.
  • May inventory and make recommendations concerning purchase of materials and equipment.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • All employees of the Medford School District have responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED); preferred experience as a tradesman and completion of or working towards a recognized apprenticeship training period or one year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Interpersonal Skills: Willing and able to learn routines and procedures to accomplish tasks in several different trade areas. Ability to interact appropriately with teachers, staff, members of the community and students. Focuses on solving conflict; maintains confidentiality; Contributes to building a positive team spirit. Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing. Preference may be given to applicants who are fluent in both English and Spanish. Ability to effectively present verbal information. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills: General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use e-mail. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: As determined by the District including valid Oregon driver\'s license, bloodborne pathogen and blood spill trainings and asbestos awareness training.

Occasionally the employee is required to work in high, precarious places and around moving parts.
