Position Summary

The Office of Academic Innovation is seeking a Temporary Copy Editor (Site Editor) for the Portland State University teaching resource website, OAI+. This position is responsible for proofreading and copyediting educational articles and tutorials according to OAI+ editorial standards. This position additionally prepares content for publication within the website editing dashboard, using pre-designed elements, templates, and standards.

To excel in this role, they will have experience in copyediting and familiarity with using a content management system for web production, as well as excellent communication and organizational skills. Familiarity with technical writing and plain language is a plus.

Position Duties/Responsibilities:

Proofreading \xe2\x80\x93 40%

  • Proofreads site content according to OAI+ editorial policies.
  • Implements requested content revisions including stylistic, formatting, and grammatical changes.
  • Identifies areas for substantive content revision according to OAI+ editorial policies.
  • Follows documentation and version control processes.



Content management in Wordpress \xe2\x80\x93 60%
  • Prepares content for publication in Wordpress, working within the site\xe2\x80\x99s templates and branding.
  • Executes site content normalization, configuration, taxonomy, and updates in Wordpress.
  • Regularly checks and tracks content for accuracy and maintains live links.



This position is a part-time position for twelve months that supports the OAI+ Design Manager.


Minimum Qualifications from Classification
  • A Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Journalism, English, or related field; OR

  • Four years of publishing experience equivalent to an editorial assistant working under the direction of an editor preparing written material for publication. Duties must have included reading copy to detect errors; verifying facts; rewriting or modifying copy to conform to publications style and editorial policy; marking copy for typesetter using standard symbols; reading galley and page proofs to detect errors; and using standard proofreading symbols to indicate corrections; OR

  • An Associates degree in Journalist and two years of the above experience.



NOTE : Proficiency in the use of microcomputers including desktop publishing software may be needed.

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement

The salary rate for this position will be between $17.43 and $19.72 per hour, dependent upon qualifications and experience.

This part-time temporary position is not eligible for benefits.
