TITLE: Teen Program Director

REPORTS TO: Teen Director

CLASSIFIED: Exempt

MISSION: To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Teen Program Coordinator is responsible for the planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating of the Workforce Development Program, Youth of the Year, and other impact and grant programming opportunities at the Club. In addition, the Teen Program Coordinator is responsible for implementing the 5 key elements of positive youth development: fun, safety, recognition, opportunities & expectations, and supportive relationships in their daily interactions with youth, their staff\xe2\x80\x99s daily interactions with youth as well as their hourly program plans and impact programs. The Teen Program Coordinator is expected to uphold the Club values inside and outside of the Club as well as hold their staff accountable for upholding the Club values. The Club values include teamwork, impact-driven, excellence & good character.

JOB DUTIES:
Workforce:
  • Recruitment, hiring, and training of youth for the Workforce Development Program
  • Develop, train and maintain partnerships with potential employers for workforce projects such as Daktronics, 3M, SDSU, and other identified future workforce needs in Brookings and the Brookings area
  • Management of the Workforce Program through site visits to ensure youth are meeting their goals
  • Develop training focusing on job training skills, interviewing, and resume creating
  • Maintain communication between employer and employee through bi-weekly meetings
  • Serve as an advocate for youth ensuring they are meeting their employment goals
  • Responsible for being present at all necessary community meetings
  • Track all participants in the workforce program


Administrative/Management:
  • Responsible for holding the biweekly team and individual one-on-one meetings with all direct report staff
  • Responsible for hiring, supervising, and evaluating all direct report staff by the creation and implementation of 60-day reviews, performance plans, and quarterly reviews
  • Required to be on the floor assisting with floor management when members are at the Club. Responsible for handling behavioral or disciplinary issues that arise
  • Provides leadership and direction to volunteers and staff to assure they develop the ability to carry out the Club\xe2\x80\x99s youth development mission and that they utilize the organization\'s goals, objectives, and policies
  • Attends 100% of monthly all staff meetings, weekly one-on-one meetings with supervisor, and weekly team meetings
  • Responsible for assisting with all special events at the Club
  • On snow days and unexpected full days, covering all shifts to insure the Club is able to open
  • Participation in Club wide events as determined necessary by supervisor
  • Responsible for managing certain budget line items, as well as any grant requirements, ensuring you stay within budget
  • Responsible for the creation of the staff schedule


General Program Duties:
  • Approval of all program plans for all spaces, including specialized, night, and Saturday programming, ensuring it is high quality, fun, and engaging for members.
  • Continually evaluate Club programs, reporting results according to established deadlines and addressing the needs of Club members
  • Establishes a program setting that ensures the health and safety of members
  • Expected to be proactive and flexible while working with youth, parents, the Club Directors, and the community
  • Conducts National Boys & Girls Club Programs such as Career Launch, Diplomas to Degrees, Money Matters, Goals for Graduation etc.
  • Assist in developing impact programs that have measurable outcomes
  • Responsible for communicating daily with Teen Director on overall Club and program operations
  • Responsible for turning in all required program updates for newsletters, publications, etc.
  • Responsible for creating membership outreach strategies and implementing these strategies, for all youth, specializing in the area of career development
  • Responsible for working in collaboration with other community groups to enhance services
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor


5 KEY ELEMENTS OF POSITIVE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT:
  • FUN
    • Smile and laugh with each youth that is in your space throughout the day.
    • Give high fives to all youth that enter your space. Clap and cheer as members enter the space.
    • Participate in Club staff dress-up and theme days.
    • Actively be engaged in the hourly activity/impact program occurring in the space you are working in while effectively supervising the full space.
    • Bring new fun programming ideas to each biweekly meeting that occurs with your supervisor.
  • SUPPORTIVE RELATIONSHIPS
    • Seek out new members each day and learn something new about them.
    • Choose three youth each trimester who attend regularly and serve as their mentor (ask about their day, learn about their outside interests, etc.).
    • Assist Unit Director and other supervisors in implementing individualized youth success plans.
  • RECOGNITION
    • Greet all members by their first name when they enter your space and with \xe2\x80\x9cIt is so great to see you at the Club today!\xe2\x80\x9d
    • Make two Club announcements over the loudspeaker to recognize something great that two members did each day.
    • Be involved in Be Great Ceremonies by participating in the drum roll before the Youth of the Month winner is announced, high fives to the Youth of the Month winners, and leading by example by cheering when youth names are announced during the ceremony.
  • OPPORTUNITIES & EXPECTATIONS
    • Be Great Champ Cards, Be Great Cards, Accident/Incident Reports and Teachable Moments will be used on a daily basis, will be filled out in its entirety, and will follow the process that is outlined by the Boys & Girls Club of Brookings.
    • Hourly program plans will be implemented according to the schedule and if not going successfully, on-the-spot fun will be implemented.
    • In your space, work with your coworkers and supervisor to establish a time when all youth must try something new.
  • SAFETY
    • Program areas are kept clean and well-maintained by the implementation of the opening and closing checklists and daily Club clean-ups.
    • When rules are broken, the emphasis is on positive reinforcement with members regarding their behavior in order to help them make positive choices in the future.
    • When talking with youth, staff get to their level to ensure eye contact can be made.
    • Confidentiality of all members\xe2\x80\x99 information is kept at the Club and is not shared verbally or via social media with anyone who is not an employee of the Boys & Girls Club of Brookings.
    • As a mandatory reporter, all suspected child abuse or neglect will be reported to your supervisor immediately and a report to DSS will be made.
    • Youth boundaries are respected (youth feet stay on the ground, no hand holding or lap sitting).
    • All Club policies and procedures are followed.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree from an Accredited University
  • Minimum of 1-year experience with youth services organizations
  • Management/Supervisory Experience
  • Must be able to understand, implement, and demonstrate principles of behavior management and other youth treatment modalities, per the Club trainings and values of fun, supportive relationships, recognition, opportunities and expectations, and safety.
  • Must be able to provide leadership, on-the-spot and reflective feedback, and supervision to assigned employees to ensure they too understand and demonstrate principles of behavior management and other youth treatment modalities, per the Club trainings and values of fun, supportive relationships, recognition, opportunities and expectations, and safety.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be of the mental and physical capacity to observe, interact, and communicate with youth, staff, volunteers, parents, etc. at the Club to ensure safety of the space and others, provide guidance and reflection per the Club priority outcomes and goals
  • Ability to stand/sit for long periods of time throughout a shift
  • Ability to operate various types of general office equipment including PC, telephone, copier, etc.
