Position Description

The Technician Apprentice is an entry-level technical role designed to build foundational skills in equipment repair, installation, and maintenance. Works under close supervision to learn fabrication, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.

Major Areas of Responsibility

Perform basic welding and fabrication tasks, including supporting cutting and fabrication projects Complete assigned jobs with minimal supervision while meeting established time standards Perform basic hydraulic repairs such as hose replacements, fitting repairs, and minor leak corrections Maintain DOT certification to perform annual inspections Perform all required shop attendant duties Assist technicians with equipment installations and repair tasks Learn and apply proper use of tools, diagnostic equipment, and repair procedures Participate in company training programs and safety meetings Successfully complete required training and skill development assignments

Minimum Qualifications & Skills

High school diploma/GED 1+ year mechanical and electrical aptitude Hold OTE forklift certification (obtained through on the job training). Ability to read and understand basic diagrams and instructions Commitment to learning and growing technical knowledge Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow direction Must have your own basic set of tools Verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently Complete all duties and responsibilities assigned to Technician Apprentice

Dependable and consistent attendance/punctuality Understand and accurately interpret/follow laws, rules, regulations, and other railroad/Omaha Track guidelines Able to change easily from one task to another of a different nature and deal with competing demands Able to prioritize work load and tasks and take initiative. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with a diverse group Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, subject to all elements and conditions Ability to meet all functional requirements including, but not limited to: lifting (up to 50lbs), sitting, kneeling, standing, walking, bending, squatting, finger dexterity, and reaching above/below shoulders Able to work overtime when demand requires
