Job Description


As an SNC Technical Writer, you will develop and update operations and maintenance manuals and supplement in support of a variety of aircraft modification programs. This primarily involves analyzing technical and engineering data and working with subject matter experts (SMEs), as well as relying on past practical experience to develop technical manuals meeting commercial and/or military specifications.

This role is open to a hybrid schedule

Responsibilities:

  • Write, edit, and maintain operations and maintenance manuals and supplements for various SNC-modified aircraft and systems
  • Adhere to commercial, military and/or SNC internal standards, as required
  • Coordinate with Graphic Designers to develop graphics/photos for inclusion in technical manuals
  • Support in-process reviews (IPRs) of documentation with internal and external customers
  • Coordinate and collaborate with any internal or external stakeholders (government and contractor) as needed or directed by the government
  • Prepare documentation with minimal input from subject matter experts
  • Work with program teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of product and documentation requirements. Verify content meets applicable standards and is appropriate for the intended audience
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently and meet all documentation deliverable deadlines
  • Analyze existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of documentation templates, layout guides, and graphics resources
  • Support internal technical reference documentation, including data libraries, training material, and process/procedure guides
  • Work efficiently individually as well as actively participate in integrated teams
  • Ensure documents are kept under change control management and properly stored within the Configuration Management (CM) database
Must-haves:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in a related field of study and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience
  • A higher level degree may substitute for experience
  • Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education
  • Advanced knowledge of technical writing principles, practices, and standards
  • Proficiency in Adobe FrameMaker
  • Thorough understanding of desktop publishing tools, including publishing features of Microsoft Word
  • Progressive experience in other elements of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe publishing tools and editing, layout, and production of technical documents which include graphics, tables, and other embedded content
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including expert-level understanding of grammar, punctuation, and spelling
  • Good communications kills via multiple platforms (e.g. instant messaging, email, phone, video conference)
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented
Preferred:
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense industry or DoD as an aircraft operator or maintainer is preferred
  • Experience in SharePoint, Visio, and Teams
  • Experience with document control software such as Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $79,264.96 - $108,989.32
