Job Description

The Performing Arts Academy is seeking an experienced theatrical Technical Director.

PAA is a leading non-profit children's theater group in the South Denver region, producing over 30 musicals and plays annually, along with a variety of performing arts classes, workshops, and outreach programs.

The Technical Director will work closely with the Production Manager to successfully execute each production to PAA's high standards of quality and excellence.

Qualified candidates must have a strong working knowledge of multiple production positions, including scenic construction and painting, props fabrication, theatrical lighting, and sound engineering basics.

Working individually at times, candidates must be self-motivating, detail-oriented, and capable of meeting production deadlines. The TD will also be responsible for leading over hire teams and contracted production technicians for show load-ins and strikes, while also assisting in an operator capacity during technical rehearsals and performances.

The right candidate will be able to remain calm under pressure, come up with creative solutions, and does not just complete each job to a minimum standard, but is able to anticipate where improvements can be made and is willing to go above and beyond to create unique theatrical experiences for every production.

Qualified candidates:



Should have at least a bachelor's degree in technical theater, or a minimum of 3 years' experience as a theatrical Technical Director or comparable experience Have experience leading or managing teams in a fast-paced production environment Have a minimum 3 years of hands-on experience as a scenic carpenter with a strong understanding of scenic building techniques, tools, and safety requirements Have a strong understanding of theatrical lighting, including hanging, focusing, and programming Have a basic understanding of theatrical audio, including cable identification and routing, microphones, and mixer programming Have experience with common theatrical programs and equipment, including ETC, Qlab, digital sound mixers, wireless microphones and networking technologies, projection mapping and applications Have the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail Have the ability to lift over 50 lbs Must be willing to work daytime, evening, and weekend hours Must work responsibly and professionally around children

Duties include, but are not limited to:



Lead carpenter on all PAA productions; builds all scenic elements based on design elements provided Props fabrication and pulls for productions Team lead on production load-ins and strikes Team lead during technical rehearsals and performances; while also participating as an operator/technician on productions Maintains inventory and cleanliness of PAA storage and work spaces Maintains functionality of PAA classroom tech equipment Maintains inventory of PAA technical equipment Assists with technical elements for PAA community and fundraising events Other duties as needed
All candidates must have reliable transportation and pass a background check. This is an hourly staff position with a weekly average of 30 hours; hours per month may vary based on seasonal work load. Rates start at $23/hr based on experience and qualifications.
