About Us



Family Centered Services of Alaska (FCSA) is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) corporation founded in 1989 by Fairbanks, Alaska community members committed to helping children with a wide spectrum of behavioral and mental health needs. Today, FCSA has over 100 employees dedicated to our mission of providing unconditional care to children and their families.

FCSA provides behavioral and mental health services to youth aged 5-19. Services include outpatient therapy, education, foster care, and short or long-term residential treatment. FCSA is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and was one of the first organizations to be licensed by the state to establish, recruit, and monitor foster homes.

Smart Start Learning Center is a subsidiary of FCSA and provides daytime care to families in our community. Employees of FCSA are eligible to enroll their children in childcare services and enjoy a discount on their monthly tuition (contingent on enrollment availability).

About the Job



Family Centered Services of Alaska is searching for a qualified individual to fulfill the Teacher (Non-Certified) role at the Midnight Sun Academy, as part of our Residential Treatment Center. An applicant selected for this role will be responsible for providing teaching, tutoring, testing, lesson plan preparation, curriculum selection and development, and establishment of educational goals for individual students and the school.

Educational and Milieu Treatment Responsibilities:



1. Provide classroom and individualized instructions in basic skill content, physical education and/or arts and crafts activities.

2. Administers individualized achievement tests in all basic achievement areas, including reading, math, spelling, vocational aptitude, and interests.

3. Assist Special Education Teacher with developing instructional objectives for students' Individualized Treatment Plan or 504 plan.

4. Implement academic curriculum in conjunction with each student's mental health treatment plan.

5. Provide crisis intervention as needed.

6. Become completely familiar with each student's Individualized Treatment Plan and implement activities.

7. Accurately observe students.

8. Assist in planning and implementing recreational and/or arts and crafts activities.

Administrative Responsibilities:



1. Assist the Special Education Teacher with the coordination of reporting and documentation requirements related to student performance, grading, and credit transfer to the local school district.

2. Assist the Special Education Teacher with the evaluation of transcripts and school records of newly admitted students to determine their educational needs.

3. Attend staff meetings, training courses, teleconferences, Individualized Treatment Plan meetings, and Treatment Team meetings.

4. Communicate with community professionals as required, including police, medical personnel, parents, social service agency personnel, etc.

5. Maintain a grade book.

Qualifications:



1. Associate's or Bachelor's Degree

2. Ability to work as a member of a team in developing and delivering academic and mental health services to students.

3. Physical ability to employ verbal and physical aggression control techniques after being certified.

4. Familiarity with Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

5. Current Alaska driver's license, driving record, and vehicle insurance.

6. Potential employees must undergo a fingerprint check, which shows that their record is free from criminal convictions, which, in the judgment of FCSA, would adversely affect their ability to work safely with children.

7. Current first aid and CPR certificates.

This position is a driving position

. Applicants will be required to submit a driving record if selected for the position.

All applicants must be at least 21 years of age due to State of AK regulations and must pass a State of AK Background Check.

Pay: $50,346.00 - $53,416.00 per year
