Associate or Bachelor Degree with concentration in Early Childhood Education/ Child Development.

Associate or Bachelor Degree in related field with/plus 15 credits in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
Related field means: elementary education, special education, family studies, human services, and social work

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have ability to ride school bus in order to escort children to and from the center.
Must have ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. in order to move children's furniture, supplies, and assist children during the operation of the program.
Frequent crouching, kneeling, and sitting on ground when interacting with children.
Must have close and distance vision abilities.
Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer and other office equipment; including, but not limited to, the telephone, fax machine and copier.

JOBDESCRIPTION:
A. Services to Children
1. Complete professional child observations on every child in the classroom.
2. Record child observations in the developmental continuum and enter the information into the Teacher Strategies Gold program and generates progress reports.3. Use Teaching Strategies Gold outcomes data as the basis for planning for individualization for all children in the classroom.4. Use information from screenings for developmental, sensory, and behavioral concerns, the ongoing observations, and insights from the child's parents to determine how the program can best respond to each child's individual characteristics, strengths, and needs. Individualization should address developmental strengths, learning styles, and cultural background.
5. Set up and maintain individual children's file for the classroom.
6. Create and implement weekly lesson plans that accurately reflect all children's goals as related to the child observations based on the TSG Creative Curriculum. Lessons to include all required Head Start components such as health, nutrition, and safety.
7. Create and maintains a safe, healthy, culturally diverse, print rich and nurturing environment. This includes assuring that the classroom has all the materials and supplies
needed to implement the curriculum.
8. Responsible for all aspects of the IEP process including:
A. Coordinate and participate in IEP meetings with the local school district staff.B. Plan for and implement IEPs and plans of action for all children with disabilities in the classroom.
9. Provides activities for all children regarding literacy, language development and expanded vocabulary.
10. Work cooperatively with the program's mental health consultant.
11. Manage children's behavior in a positive manner using the Pyramid model components to support the social and emotional development of children.
12. Ride the bus as needed and implement all bus policies and procedures of the program. Non-lead teacher will have additional transportation duties on a regular basis.
13. Assure that all required program screenings are completed for all children up to and including Dial R, Child Find, DECA, and TS Gold.
14. Assure that children, staff and volunteers participate in family-style meal service.
15. Maintain ongoing communication with LEAS.
16. Refer children with suspected health, mental health or developmental symptoms to Center Coordinator.
17. Follow established routines with smooth transitions.
18. Is accountable for children at all times.
19. Assist classroom staff with daily activities. This includes:
A. Sanitation of classroom equipment
B. Sanitation of tables after all meals
C. Tooth brushing with the children- after lunch
D. Daily health and safety check (outlets, playground)
E. Diapering
20. Use the CLASS tool to continually improve the quality of CLASSroom interactions.
21. Maintains classroom according to NCCHS, Inc. classroom standards.
22. Implements all Active Supervision procedures including but not limited to walking
Attendance and dry earse board count.
B. Services to Families
1. Promote and support active parental involvement in the program.
2. Participate in Center Open House.
3. Conduct a minimum of two home visits and a minimum of two parent/teacher conferences with documentation.
4. Participate in parent training events as requested.
5. Keep in contact (both verbally and written) with parents about children's progress, attendance, and documents all contacts.
6. Educate parents on the IEP process and support them at IEP meetings.
7. Follow up with school districts or other appropriate agency to assure that all IEPs are
scheduled and completed as needed.
8. Welcome parents into the classroom and assist them in their role as volunteers.
9. Attend monthly Center Visit Meeting with CC and FSW to discuss children with IEP's and IFSP's and all other children.
C. Professional
1. Perform assigned duties on time.
2. Engage in ongoing professional development each fiscal year at a minimum of 15 hours.
3. Assists in conducting staff training activities.
4. Maintain confidentiality in all areas.
5. Use leave appropriately.
6. Arrive and depart for work as scheduled.
7. Notify supervisor of inability to report to work according to procedure.
8. Communicate openly with supervisor on all issues relating to program operations and keep him/her abreast of any changes in personal information (address, telephone number).

12. Know and follow all New Castle County Head Start, Inc. Program Policies and Procedures as stated in the Employee Handbook, Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual, Head Start Performance Standards and Delacare State Licensing regulations.
13. Provide direction and leadership to Teacher Assistant, Classroom Aide, Interns and Volunteers.
14. Maintain professional standards as required including annual training hours.
