PURPOSE
This position is for an EL teacher who will design and implement language instruction and intervention for students who are identified as English Leaners (EL). The EL teacher will provide support to EL students in their classrooms and in the content areas. The EL teacher will be expected to develop individualized educational plans for each EL student and develop and deliver group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines within all content areas. The EL teacher will work collaboratively with classroom teachers in a capacity that includes, but is not limited to, joining professional learning teams, helping differentiate instruction and assessment of EL students, and providing on-going support to classroom teachers as they implement EL strategies. The EL teacher will administer the annual English proficiency test and will be responsible for administering the EL screening test to students who are new to the school. The EL teacher must maintain all state and district required documentation on EL students and will serve as a liaison between the school, the classroom teachers, the parents/guardians of EL students, the district EL office, and district interpreters. This position may require travel among schools. EL teachers are district teachers who are assigned to buildings to meet the needs of EL students; therefore, building placement may change from year-to-year. EL teachers placed at Douglass High School may teach EL content and enrichment classes, in addition to English Language Development (ELD) classes.
