This position is a member of our Air Quality Division.
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Coordinate modeling activities in support of air quality planning. Prepare and conduct quality assurance on emissions files for photochemical and other regulatory modeling inputs. Identifies data gaps, errors, anomalies, inconsistencies, and redundancies by analyzing the content, structure, and relationships within the data.
Plan and administer modeling projects required for air quality planning activities, such as attainment demonstration state implementation plan (SIP) revisions for one or more nonattainment areas. Determine photochemical modeling run needs; scheduling of computing resources and tasks; manage data inputs, post-processing and analysis of modeling data; coordinates activities with other air quality staff; and create specialized modeling data analysis software programs.
Provide expertise to staff regarding model software selection, configuration, and optimization for SIP modeling of various pollutants. Provide technical guidance, advice, and training to modeling staff; and communicate technical modeling and air quality information to TCEQ management, stakeholder groups, elected officials, the general public, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Participate in planning future activities related to the emissions data and modeling processes, including evaluation of new modeling technologies and design of future modeling studies and programs. Develop, evaluate, and track highly advanced air quality research projects in support of the SIP, serving as project leader and providing guidance to staff.
Qualifications
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Experience overseeing technical or scientific environmental research projects/contracts.
Experience monitoring, overseeing, or coordinating air quality planning activities.
Experience developing scientific data used for air quality plans and programs.
Experience developing technical documentation for federal or state environmental plans.
Experience communicating technical information to various audiences.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Five years of full-time experience in data analysis, data research, data compilation; and/or reporting work.
OR
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, basic science, computer science, environmental science, mathematics, statistics or a related field; plus, three years of the required experience.
OR
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; plus, four years of the required experience.
Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Data Analysis IV state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Data Analysis IV series.
Work Schedule
Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Air Quality Division.
