ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Possesses a thorough knowledge of dialysis initiation using a variety of equipment necessary for hemodialysis delivery.
Assists in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments prior, during and after hemodialysis procedure.
Monitor patients' response to dialysis therapy and report any unusual findings to nurse
Assists Registered Nurse in preparation of patient, assembly of supplies, instruments, equipment, and termination of treatment; assists with all aspects of room/bay turnover.
Performs duties according to department policy and procedure.
Attends in-services/staff meetings; exhibits knowledge of current department related issues and participates in Performance Improvement Process.
Participates in educational opportunities to increase competency and meet personal needs and goals.
Documents in the EMR within their scope of practice
Provides total patient care including, but not limited to, hygiene, toileting and nutrition while under the care of the dialysis team
Maintains disinfection and routine maintenance of the dialysis machine and reverse osmosis water delivery system. Alert nursing leader/certified biomedical technicians immediately of any unexpected outcomes
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Must speak English in good, understandable terms. Intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, and touch. Finger dexterity. Critical thinking and ability to concentrate. Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions. Physical Abilities Testing required.
Additional department specific physical requirements may be identified for unique responsibilities within the department by the nurse leader.
Vision and hearing for distances of up to twenty 20 feet is required, depth perception and must meet the necessary requirements of Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED required. BLS required per policy guidelines. Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician or 1 year of acute hospital experience required.

Applies clinical and technical skills to assist in providing patient care in the Kidney Dialysis Unit and patient bedside while maintaining a safe work environment and performing all related job responsibilities. Ensures quality patient care before, during and after the procedure under the direct supervision of the registered nurse.
