DEPARTMENT: Information Technology
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
LOCATION: 632 W. 6th Avenue

Example of Duties

The position\'s role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all Microsoft Windows clients, servers, and associated operating systems. The Systems Management Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments. This position is responsible for and also manages the operation and configuration of system tools for management of the Microsoft infrastructure. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED or equivalent and eight (8) years of experience in the integrity and efficient operations of a in house information system..

OR

Associate\'s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or a related discipline and six (6) years of experience in the integrity and efficient operations of a in house information system..

OR

Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related discipline and four (4) years of experience in the integrity and efficient operations of a in house information system..

OR

Master\'s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, a related discipline and two (2) years of experience in the Integrity and efficient operations of a in house information system..

Must possess a valid State of Alaska driver\'s license at the time of hire. Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) FBI Background Investigation must be completed within 30 days of hire.

Preferences:

  • Certifications in MCP, MCSA, or MCSE, VMware (VCA-DCV), Windows PowerShell; Essentials, CompTIA+, and Comp TIA Security+

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted background check (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400) and a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) FBI Background Investigation. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment. Accordingly it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted.

Military Service Interview Preference:
Veterans who wish to be considered for an interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran or similar document. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.

An individual currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wishes to be considered for an interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual\'s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
