Job Description

Summary/Purpose of Position: The primary responsibility is to execute the daily tasks and standard operating procedures in the gilt development and gestation/breeding unit for production and research needs in a breed to wean sow facility. This person will also be responsible for maintaining and providing proper animal care and well-being at all times. Primary Job Responsibilities/Duties:

• Perform daily operations of swine production (feeding, heat checking, breeding, animal movement, piglet processing, power washing, administering medications and vaccinations, and adjusting feeders as needed).

• Conduct necessary research measurements as needed for a trial. This includes weighing sows, pigs and feeders, collecting feed samples, record needed trial data, and daily observations of the pigs and environment.

• Coordinate and perform general repairs and maintenance on facility and equipment

• Assist other farm employees in completing needed tasks for the day.

• Majority of work is conducted in an indoor swine confinement environment which includes very dusty, noisy conditions with animals that have unpredictable movements

• High school diploma or GED

• 1-2 years professional experience in swine production preferred

• Knowledge of swine reproduction principles and procedures
• Knowledge of general maintenance techniques
• Knowledge of general safety principles
• Knowledge of research and data collection/reporting techniques
