Montgomery County Department of Recreation is a nationally recognized and award-winning agency with a mission to provide high quality, diverse, and accessible community-based programs, activities, and services that serve the recreation and leisure needs of the Montgomery County community. We are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic
Swim Instructors
to teach swimming skills to individuals of all ages and skill levels. The ideal candidate will have a passion for water safety, excellent communication skills, and the ability to provide a positive, supportive learning environment. The

What You'll Be Doing

Duties will include:
Teach Swimming Lessons: Instruct individual and group swim lessons for swimmers of all ages and skill levels, from beginners to advanced.
Ensure Safety: Monitor swimmers closely to ensure a safe and secure environment. Enforce pool safety rules and protocols.
Assess Progress: Evaluate students' swimming abilities, track progress, and provide constructive feedback. Adjust lesson plans as needed to accommodate different learning styles.
Provide Encouragement and Support: Foster a positive and encouraging atmosphere to help students build confidence and enjoy learning to swim.
Maintain Equipment and Facility: Ensure that swim equipment is properly maintained and assist with pool upkeep as needed
Communicate with Parents/Guardians: Regularly update parents or guardians on their child's progress and address any questions or concerns about lessons.
Attend Training: Participate in ongoing professional development and attend safety training or certification renewals as required.
Follow Safety Protocols: Respond quickly and effectively to any emergencies or incidents, following established emergency procedures and first aid protocols.
Successful candidates should possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Physical Requirements: Ability to demonstrate swimming skills, work in water for extended periods, and perform physical tasks related to instruction.
Knowledge of and ability to apply fundamentals of business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, arithmetic and standard office practices and procedures.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to exercise good judgement, courtesy, and tact in dealing with the public.
This position may require working evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on the program schedule.
Selected candidates will be required to complete a criminal background check and drug screening prior to hire.
Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Three hundred (300) hours of relevant work experience as a leader or instructor in one or more specialized recreation activities.
Education: Ability to read and write in English.
Equivalency: None
SPECIAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Swim Instructor: Water Safety Instructor Certificate or previous swim teaching or coaching experience.
Aquatics positions require the Medical History Review with a Drug/Alcohol screen.
