We are seeking a skilled and passionate Sushi Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food preparation, fine dining, and sushi artistry, with a focus on delivering exceptional dining experiences. This role requires expertise in kitchen operations, food safety, and menu creation, ensuring that each dish meets our high standards of quality and presentation. The Sushi Chef will play a vital role in maintaining the restaurant's reputation for authentic and innovative sushi offerings.
Responsibilities
Prepare and assemble sushi dishes with precision, artistry, and adherence to recipes and presentation standards
Develop and plan sushi menus that align with restaurant themes and customer preferences
Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation in all kitchen activities
Handle all aspects of food preparation including slicing fish, cooking rice, and assembling rolls
Ensure the freshness and quality of ingredients used in sushi preparation
Collaborate with the culinary team to create new dishes and improve existing menu items
Manage inventory levels for seafood, rice, seaweed, and other sushi ingredients
Maintain cleanliness of workstations and ensure compliance with health regulations
Train junior kitchen staff on sushi techniques, knife skills, and proper food handling procedures
Skills
Extensive culinary experience with a focus on sushi preparation and presentation
Strong knife skills and proficiency in various cutting techniques
Experience in fine dining or upscale restaurant environments preferred
Knowledge of food safety standards and proper food handling practices
Ability to plan menus that balance creativity with operational efficiency
Background in dietary department or dietary aide experience is a plus
Excellent food industry knowledge including catering, food service, and meal preparation
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently during busy service times
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while maintaining attention to detail
