Summary

As a part of a surgery team, under the supervision of a Charge RN or Nurse Manager, assists in providing optimal preparation and care of the surgical patient in accordance with patient needs, physician order, CTRH policy and standards of patient care.

Responsibilities

• Assists surgical team before, during and after surgery in a timely, cost effective manner by providing expert support, assistance and maintenance of instruments and equipment. \xe2\x80\xa2 Checks instruments and equipment for cleanliness, sterility, and functionality prior to the start of each case. \xe2\x80\xa2 Places equipment and supplies in the operating room and arranges instruments according to instructions. \xe2\x80\xa2 Configures equipment for ease of use. \xe2\x80\xa2 Assists with set up and use of equipment during procedures. \xe2\x80\xa2 Assists in patient preparation before and positioning during procedures. \xe2\x80\xa2 Scrubs and dons gown and gloves and assists members of the surgical team in preparing for surgery. \xe2\x80\xa2 Oversees and assures the maintenance of the sterile field throughout the surgery in accordance with aseptic standards and techniques. \xe2\x80\xa2 Passes instruments and sterile supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants. Holds retractors and performs other tasks as directed. \xe2\x80\xa2 Counts sponges, needles, and instruments before and after operations. \xe2\x80\xa2 Assist with sterile and non-sterile dressings for patients following surgery \xe2\x80\xa2 Cleans operating room, washes and sterilizes equipment and assists with room turnover \xe2\x80\xa2 Supports standards of care though adherence to existing policies and procedures using AORN & ASGE standards as a guideline. \xe2\x80\xa2 Maintains professional competence through formal education, workshops and unit specific requirements. \xe2\x80\xa2 Participates in orienting and training new staff in procedures, policies and unit functioning \xe2\x80\xa2 Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Required o Completion of an accredited surgical technologist training OR three (3) year of surgical technician experience, including successful completion of introductory requirements and competencies, required. o Current BLS/CPR for healthcare providers o Surgical Technician certification required and maintained or has worked continuously as a scrub tech since 1/1/2018. o If not certified, must successfully complete not less than 15 hours annually of continuing education concerning the practice of surgical technology and must maintain records in Human Resources. (NRS 449) \xe2\x80\xa2 Endoscopy o Knowledge of all endoscopic procedures, equipment, and supplies including more complex, high risk, low volume procedures such as ERCP, EUS and wall-stent placement. o In addition to cleaning and high level disinfection/sterilization, monitors sterilizers and disinfecting solutions and maintain accurate records
