The Surgical Technician/Technologist will assist in the surgical suite and endoscopy room to provide safe and skilled patient care.
The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status. They must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's/area's/department's policies and procedures.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Two years of surgical tech experience in the majority of the services provided at CRH preferred, or completion of an accredited surgical tech program. (Technician is non-certified; Technologist is certified).
Prefer tech who has completed certification testing by the Association of Surgical Technologists.
EXPERIENCE
Previous experience of at least 2 years as a surgical tech are preferred.

Must possess a high degree of confidentiality of all matters with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
Knowledge of aseptic technique and infection control principles.
Able to perform effectively in highly stressful situations.
Must be able to interact effectively with a wide variety of people.
Must be able to anticipate the needs of the surgeons and patient.
Good hearing is necessary.
Excellent communication skills.
Effective computer and keyboarding skills.
Must have ability to learn and use Microsoft Office Suite products including Word and Outlook.
Ability to learn new computer software applications.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
BLS (AHA) required
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist the OR Circulating RN in preparing the room for the start of surgery. To include opening sterile packages, selecting appropriate equipment to be used for the case and making sure that all supplies that will be needed are available.
Set up the instruments and equipment that is required for the procedure.
Maintain a sterile environment in the operating room.
Adhere to standards of safety and infection control in delivery of patient care.
Serve on committees as assigned.
Serve as a professional member of the Surgical Services team.
Assist with cleaning the surgical suite and related areas.
Provide necessary guidance and instruction to fellow coaEUR'workers.
Check outdates and condition of supplies and equipment, assuring that stock is rotated that outdated supplies are replaced.
Improve the efficiency of surgeons and other professionals in the operating room.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
Pursue own professional growth through continuing education and in-services.
May be required to assist transport of patients to surgery or to escort patients out of building upon discharge.
Attend meetings as assigned.
Assist with putting orders/supplies away in a timely manner.
Participate and occasionally instruct in-services for fellow employees.
Assist with orientation of new employees to the department.
Attend workshops as necessary.
May be required to work in the Sterile Processing Department when needed and perform the job role of the Sterile Processing Tech. (See sterile processing tech job description).
