Job Summary

: Obtain authorizations for multiple physicians and all Insurances for Surgeries, DME or Injections. This includes gathering medical records, answering insurance company's questions to get approval and requires basic insurance knowledge.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:



Reaches out to insurance via phone, fax, or website to work authorization. Authorizes with primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance per insurance protocol. Works all upcoming surgeries, DME or Injections for Prior Authorization from all insurances. Notes in two systems the progression of the prior authorization. Works with insurances and gathers and submits all medical records needed to get approval for the upcoming service. Corresponds with surgery scheduler on the progression of the prior authorization. DME authorizations, benefits and calling patients to pre-collect and schedule appointments. Communicates with patients to resolve issues/problems with insurance, authorization or records needed to get the authorization. Getting up and down to gather information from fax or printer. Completes actions in ECW. Completes checklist in Surgimate. Works cooperatively with others to increase accuracy and efficiency. Assists other departments as requested by supervisor. Attends meetings as required. Maintains strictest confidentiality. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:



High school diploma or GED required.

Work Experience:



Minimum of two years' experience with insurance. Previous authorization/insurance experience in a health care environment.

None.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



Requires high level of organizational skills, excellent documentation, and communication skills. Strong computer skills. Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of insurance plans and criteria. Ability to work in a professional and courteous manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize work. Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness. Ability to perform all tasks efficiently and accurately. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians and staff.

Working Conditions:



Work is performed in a medical office setting. May be exposed to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, biohazards, bodily fluids and other conditions common to a clinic setting. Involves frequent contact with staff and the public. Contact involves dealing with sick persons. Interaction with others may be constant and interruptive. Work may be stressful at times. May involve dealing with angry or upset individuals. May periodically work outside of normal work hours.

Physical Requirements:



Requires sitting for long periods of time. Requires viewing computer screen and typing for long periods. Requires normal physical strength to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Requires normal physical agility, which includes stooping, bending and stretching to access files and supplies. Requires normal concentration regarding complexity and timeliness of decision making. Requires normal memory, taking into consideration the amount and type of information involved. Average visual acuity necessary to prepare or review documents or operate equipment. Ability to speak, frequently conveying detailed or important information or ideas accurately. Ability to hear normal speech, both in person and on the telephone.
