Job Description

Orthopaedic Associates is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Phone Nurse to join our team working in a high volume, orthopaedic only, ambulatory surgery center. The ideal candidate will have previous orthopaedic and/or surgical experience. This is an outpatient-only facility, so hours would be Monday - Friday day shift.

Under the general supervision of the RN Supervisor, the Phone Nurse performs care coordination and professional nursing functions to assess the severity of the patient's orthopaedic concerns using protocol and algorithms in a manner that provides patients information and education within the scope of the licensed practice. The Phone Nurse will be part of the care team supporting general orthopaedic care processes alongside Orthopaedic Associates' providers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct pre- and post-operative calls to review medical history, provide patient education, reinforce instructions, assess recovery status, triage patient questions and escalate concerns to the surgical teams as needed Coordinate with anesthesia providers to review EKG results and ensure required cardiac clearance is completed prior to surgery Assist with the completion of surgical and anesthesia consent forms, ensuring patient understanding Process medical orders to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely execution Manage patient calls and messages, assess needs, and coordinate care per protocols Document assessments and care provided to ensure continuity and compliance Perform nursing functions and assist with pre-op processes as needed Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with company policies and procedures

Associates or bachelor's degree from accredited college/university and current unrestricted Indiana Licensed Practical Nurse/Registered Nurse license required. Triage experience preferred.
Strong prioritization, critical thinking, and communication skills Demonstrate clinical competence and knowledge of disease processes Must possess community health knowledge and theory General computer and telephone skills required Nursing skills with and without visual inspections Capacity to function independently within licensed scope of practice Must have the ability to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively
