Surgical Tech III
demonstrates through clinical practice a clear understanding of sterile techniques and has a working knowledge of the specialized instrumentation and equipment required for a variety of specialty procedures. Demonstrates competency to operate all specialty instruments, supplies, and equipment to at least one tertiary specialty service. Performs patient care under the direction of the physician and supervision of the lead nurse in an ambulatory care setting.

Pediatric Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) at Arnold Palmer Hospital
The APH CVOR provides comprehensive pediatric and adult congenital cardiovascular surgical services with varying levels of complexity. Services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A dedicated surgical team provides pre-operative consults and counseling to patients and families as well as high quality intraoperative care. The team is dedicated to ensuring coordination of services needed by patients and families coping with congenital heart disease and children with acquired heart disease.

Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
Responsible for the maintenance of an orderly surgical field and for consistently passing instruments and supplies quickly and
efficiently to the surgeon.
Able to anticipate and prioritize the needs of the various steps associated with the procedure.
Takes part in sponge, needle and instruments counts as dictated by the procedure.
Responsible for maintaining the surgical specimen in a manner which identifies and preserves them for pathology evaluation.
Assists in ordering and stocking of specialty supplies under the direction of management staff and departmental guidelines
In collaboration with a Registered Nurse, serves as a technical subject matter expert for at least one tertiary specialty.
Provides scrub services for major procedures in cardiovascular and thoracic (independently with high physician satisfaction).
Prepares and conducts technical performance oriented training related to specialty service.
Serves as a preceptor to perioperative personnel rotating through the scrub roles associated with their specialty(s) and /or
second circulates on major tertiary procedures.
Collaborates with surgeons and proactively addresses case needs when performing duties in either the scrub or second circulator roles.
In collaboration with the clinical leadership, assists in work flow process improvement activities, contributes to organizational
effectiveness, and demonstrates career growth and development.
Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
May have limited access to areas storing medications.
Embraces and participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities
Supports and demonstrates effective and professional communication with patients and family members
Works collaboratively with the administrative and operations staff.
Gathers patient data through interview and observation.
Assists the physician by acting as a liaison on behalf of the patient to schedule, provide patient with scheduling information to
obtain specialty testing, and/or specialty physician consultation.
Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Education/Training
High school graduate or equivalent; and
Successful completion of:
Surgical Technology training program; or
Orlando Health training program; or
U.S. Military Medical Core Training
Licensure/Certification
Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
Experience
* Four (4) years of surgical tech experience are required. CST certification or Tech in Surgery certification (issued by the NCCT) and two (2) years of surgical tech experience may substitute for the four (4) years of required experience.
