Overnight Support Staff manage the shift operations of the Burlington Area Homeless Shelter following the Policies and Procedures under the direction of the Executive Director. They will be responsible for the operation, safety, and security of Residents and the Shelter while on duty. They will complete daily clerical, janitorial, and organizational duties.
Job Responsibilities
1. Embrace the mission of the Burlington Area Homeless Shelter: to provide shelter and support to those who have become in need of temporary housing in Burlington and the surrounding area while maintaining the dignity and respect of these persons.
2. Positively interact with Residents and assist them according to individual needs and Shelter policies.
3. Promptly address situations that arise with Residents. Consult with the Executive Director or emergency personnel when necessary.
4. Responsible for the safety and security of Residents and Shelter while on duty.
5. Document daily shift happenings and process clerical duties.
6. Process, document, and organize donations: which may include sorting, doing laundry, making receipts, and organizing.
7. Routine janitorial responsibilities of cleaning common areas, including rest rooms and the kitchen, as well as room preparation for new Residents.
8. Communicate and coordinate with the Shelter staff team for smooth shelter operations and shift transitions.
9. Maintain familiarity with Shelter policies and procedures.
10. Maintain professional boundaries.
11. Maintain confidentiality.
12. Present themselves in a positive and professional manner at all times.
13. Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
1. A passion for the shelter's mission.
2. At least one year of relatable work or volunteer experience.
3. Competent with computer skills, such as Google Workspace, documents, and spreadsheets.
4. Ability to work independently.
4. A professional demeanor.
5. Strong decision making skills and reasoning ability.
6. Ability to follow directions and communicate effectively in English; including in person, over the phone, and in writing.
7. Physical ability to lift 25 pounds, climb stairs, process donations, sit, and stand.
8. At least 18 years of age.
