Why does the job exist?



This position manages and oversees Remedial Unit 2 staff operations and customer service activities within a workplace environment related to remediation cleanups of petroleum regulated contaminates at all registered underground and aboveground storage tank sites to protect ground water. It provides leadership, direction, and final technical and administrative review of all remedial action work-plans to ensure cleanup by owners and operators of UST and AST reporting petroleum releases to prevent groundwater contamination by regulated petroleum contamination.



The job ensures that all work performed by staff complies with state laws, Environment Department rules, regulations, and Statutes (i.e., Ground Water Protection Act, Hazardous Waste Act). It oversees the processing and validation of work-plans for remedial action release sites to include monitoring and removal of all petroleum contaminates and ensure the site meets minimum cleanup, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and legal compliance.

How does it get done?



This position is responsible for managing and facilitating corrective action at complex underground and aboveground storage tank release sites and supervises staff. Duties include:

Supervision of project managers including both administrative and personnel duties Providing technical guidance and setting priorities for project managers Reviews geological and chemical site data and evaluates applicable remediation strategies Team driven approval of technical scopes of work and proposed costs Oversight of corrective action contractors and interaction with the regulated community Reviewing and approving technical data and reports

Minimum Qualification



Bachelor's Degree in a related Water Resources discipline (Agriculture Science, Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Watershed Management, Physics, Biology, Natural Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geography Forestry/Forest Science, Conservation Science, Wildlife Science, Emergency Management, or Engineering) and six (6) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling ten (10) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements



Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico. Must posses OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training or have it successfully completed with one (1) year of hire.

Working Conditions



Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Required to drive a state vehicle. As much as 30% of time may be in a field setting conducting corrective action site audits.
