Job Summary

Maintains shift accountability through the supervision of workflow for assigned sites(s) for the Sterile Processing Department. Responsible for maintaining adequate staff levels to ensure quality services in a cost effective and efficient manner. Mentors and guides employees and provide input regarding employee performance. Assists the manager with employee development, education, and disciplinary actions on assigned shifts. Collects, monitors, analyzes, and summarizes data to identify process inefficiencies and/or quality assurance issues. Troubleshoots and interacts with other Spectrum Health Sterile Processing Departments to ensure all reprocessing needs are met in a timely manner.

Essential Functions

  • Supervises the activities of staff and manages the workload at assigned site(s).
  • Responsible for the development of staff schedules including updates to meet changing needs daily. Fills staff vacancies on a shift-by-shift basis and anticipates those needs based on run volumes.
  • Monitors overtime costs, leave of shift (LOS) and daily usage of FTEs and supplies, working within the budget.
  • Assists manager with interviewing, hiring, performance evaluations, goals setting, performance improvement and corrective actions. Provides direction and support to team member downline to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. Facilitates the training and continuing education of employees.
  • Makes suggestions for process changes and provides input into policies, procedures, and departmental objectives.
  • May perform Sterile Processing Technician job responsibilities as needed, as determined by the Director/Manager.
Qualifications- Required
  • Associate degree or equivalent
  • 2 years of relevant experience related field
  • CRT-Sterile Processing Distribution Tech (CSPDT) - CBSPD Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution Effective January 1, 2020, all leaders within the role must be certified within 18 months from the date of hire. 1 1/2 Yrs required or CRT-Registered Central Services Technician, Certified (CRCST) - IAHCSMM International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management Effective January 1, 2020, all leaders within the role must be certified within 18 months from the date of hire. 1 1/2 Yrs required
Qualification- Preferred
  • 2 years of relevant experience Sterile Processing Department supervision
