Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated

Supervisor

to join our team in Lexington, KY. The Non-Ferrous Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all non-ferrous scrap operations, including receiving, grading, processing, inventory control, and shipment of non-ferrous metals. This role ensures safe, efficient, and profitable operations while maintaining quality standards, regulatory compliance, and strong customer service. The position requires hands-on leadership, metal knowledge, and the ability to manage people and materials in a fast-paced recycling environment.


Key Responsibilities



Operations & Production



Supervise daily non-ferrous yard operations, including receiving, sorting, grading, processing, and outbound shipments Ensure accurate identification and grading of non-ferrous metals (copper, aluminum, brass, stainless, etc.) Monitor production flow to maximize throughput, recovery, and profitability Coordinate shipments, inventory levels, and material movement within the yard

Safety & Compliance



Enforce all safety policies, OSHA regulations, and company procedures Conduct daily safety checks and address unsafe conditions immediately Ensure compliance with environmental, state, and local regulations Train employees on proper handling of materials and equipment

Team Leadership & Training



Supervise, train, and motivate non-ferrous yard employees Assign daily tasks and manage labor to meet operational needs Provide coaching, performance feedback, and corrective action as needed Lead by example with a strong work ethic and safety mindset

Quality Control & Inventory



Maintain accurate inventory records and minimize shrink and loss Ensure materials meet customer and mill specifications Monitor contamination levels and enforce quality standards

Customer & Vendor Interaction



Assist with customer transactions and resolve material or grading disputes Build positive relationships with customers, vendors, and transport providers Support fair, transparent, and consistent grading practices

Equipment & Yard Maintenance



Oversee proper use and basic maintenance of forklifts, loaders, shears, and other yard equipment Coordinate repairs and report mechanical issues promptly Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient non-ferrous yard layout

Qualifications & Experience



3-5 years of experience in scrap metal recycling, with strong non-ferrous knowledge Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred Proven ability to identify and grade non-ferrous metals accurately Strong understanding of scrap pricing, quality standards, and market requirements Knowledge of safety regulations and yard operations

Skills & Competencies



Strong leadership and people-management skills Hands-on, self-motivated, and detail-oriented Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions Effective communication and problem-solving skills Basic computer skills for inventory, reporting, and scheduling

Physical and Work Environment



Ability to lift up to 50lbs Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in an industrial yard environment Ability to operate heavy equipment (with training/certification as required)
