This is a part time position that will work only on an
as needed basis.

Position Summary
The Substitute Truck Driver Academy Instructor provides training and instruction to prospective school bus and truck drivers participating in the Boone County Schools Driver Academy. This position supports the safe, effective preparation of drivers by teaching required skills, safety procedures, and operational practices when the primary instructor is unavailable. The substitute instructor ensures training aligns with West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) and Boone County Schools standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
+ Provide classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction to trainees in accordance with WVDE regulations, CDL standards, and county transportation procedures.
+ Train participants in vehicle inspection, safe driving practices, defensive driving, passenger safety, and emergency procedures.
+ Demonstrate and teach proper operation of large vehicles, including school buses and district trucks.
+ Assess trainee performance and provide feedback to support skill development and safety awareness.
+ Maintain accurate training records, attendance logs, and evaluation documentation.
+ Ensure all instruction follows state and federal transportation laws, CDL requirements, and Boone County Schools policies.
+ Operate school buses and district vehicles safely and professionally when demonstrating skills.
+ Assist in preparing trainees for written tests, skills tests, and road tests.
+ Report training progress, concerns, or necessary follow-up to the Director of Transportation.
+ Maintain a safe learning environment at all times.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
Qualifications

1.
Valid Class A CDL license with a Passenger and School Bus endorsements.
2.
6 Years verifiable work related experience
3.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Physical Demands
+ Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle.
+ Ability to climb, bend, reach, and perform pre-trip inspections.
+ Ability to work in various weather conditions.
+ Ability to assist trainees with entering/exiting vehicles and performing safety procedures.
