Position Summary



Seventh Direction is seeking a full-time Substance Use Disorder Counselor to provide comprehensive clinical services to individuals struggling with substance use. The Counselor will conduct assessments, develop and manage individualized treatment plans, facilitate individual and group therapy sessions, and ensure documentation meets federal, state, and agency requirements. You'll play a critical role in supporting client recovery journeys through evidence-based practices, advocacy, and collaborative care.

Key Responsibilities



Conduct initial screenings, assessments, and diagnostic evaluations for new clients.

Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized treatment plans based on client needs and treatment goals.

Provide individual and group therapy using evidence-based modalities, including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Relapse Prevention.

Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions for both adult and adolescent clients, using developmentally appropriate approaches.

Maintain compliance with 42 C.F.R. Part 2, HIPAA, KDADS, and other relevant regulations.

Prepare and maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation (e.g., assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries).

Collaborate with internal teams (peer mentors, clinical staff, leadership) and external partners (probation officers, community services) to ensure continuity of care.

Provide case management and client advocacy services to support recovery, including resource referrals and crisis intervention.

Participate in regular staff meetings, case reviews, trainings, and quality assurance activities.

Adhere to ethical standards, maintaining strict client confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Stay current with required Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and participate in ongoing professional development.

Qualifications



Required

: Bachelor's degree or higher in a behavioral science, social work, psychology, human services, or a related field.

Required one of the following:

LMFT, LCMFT, LMLP, LCP, LPC, LCPC, LMSW, LSCSW, LP.

Required:

Ability and willingness to work with both adolescent and adult populations, including facilitating adolescent-specific group and individual sessions.

Preferred:

At least one (1) year of direct experience working with substance use disorders or in a similar clinical setting.

Familiarity with KDADS treatment standards, ASAM criteria, and DSM-5 diagnostic criteria.

Proficient in using electronic health record systems and general computer literacy.

Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

If in recovery, must be in stable recovery, as defined by clinical and agency standards. Reasonable accommodations will be made in accordance with applicable laws.

Strong interpersonal skills, clinical judgment, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred: Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills to better serve diverse client populations.

Preferred Experience



Experience working in grant-funded programs (e.g., Block Grant services).

Background in trauma-informed care and co-occurring disorder treatment.

Knowledge of community resources and recovery-oriented systems of care.

Work Environment



Primarily clinic-based with occasional outreach or community engagement activities. Requires flexibility, strong organizational skills, and the ability to adapt to changing client needs and program demands.
