Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Substance Abuse Counselor to work within our Office-Based Addiction Treatment (OBAT) program at New Horizons Healthcare. In this role, you will be responsible for developing treatment and recovery plans and identifying behaviors that impede recovery. You will facilitate individual and group therapy sessions to help patients meet their recovery goals.
To ensure success, substance abuse counselors should be familiar with the latest treatment methods and collaborate with other mental health care specialists. Candidates should have excellent clinical knowledge, demonstrable counseling experience, and a belief in Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) as an evidence-based approach to treating addiction.

Substance Abuse Counselor Responsibilities:

Managing all clinical aspects of a case from date of entry to date of discharge. Conducting assessments to evaluate a new patients' appropriateness for the OBAT program. Developing treatment and recovery plans. Facilitating individual and group therapy sessions. Monitoring patients over time to assess treatment progress. Identifying behaviors that interfere with treatment and recovery. Working as a member of a team alongside a Psychiatric Prescriber, Care Coordinator and Peer Recovery Specialist to most effectively meet the needs of the patient.

Substance Abuse Counselor Requirements:

Master's degree in counseling preferred. LPC; LCSW; CSAC Experience leading groups preferred. Previous experience with the treatment of substance use disorders. Familiarity with electronic health record systems Experience with co-occurring health and mental health problems. Application of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services' (SAMHSA) best practice indicators. In-depth knowledge of drug and alcohol testing to monitor treatment plans and medical instructions. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Exceptional interpersonal skills and a compassionate nature.
