This is a Full-Time, Regular position and is located in Ellsworth AFB, SD. This position will report to the Site Manager.

The Subject Matter Expert/Exercise Battlespace Coordination Support positions directly supports on-site planning, execution, and live fly portions of Large Force Exercises and daily flying operations. The position is expected to contribute at Subject Matter Expert level to enhance and advance the combat training during local training missions and preparation for training deployments. Selected candidates will coordinate efforts between aircrews/Air Combat Training Systems technical experts and the Federal Aviation Administration(FAA) to ensure airspace availability is compatible with mission requirements and desired learning objectives. Must be familiar with air-to-air and surface-to-air training, classifications of federal airspace and be able to provide directives/guidance to aircrew and Range Training Officers. The duties and requirements of this position include but are not limited to the following:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the Supervisor of Flying (SOF) Log and Special Use Airspace Notice to Airman reflect the daily Powder River Range Training Complex (PRTC) schedule requests for all range participants
  • Resolve or advise users of any conflicts or gaps in PRTC airspace requests
  • Call the applicable squadron step desk 30 minutes prior to first aircraft entry to track any Airspace entry delays or cancels
  • Coordinate with Air Traffic Control (ATC) or wing scheduling to request additional airspace or return airspace if required
  • Check-In aircraft with active airspace and current stack. Record times on the SOF Log
  • Alert aircraft to potential conflicts, changes to the airspace, FAA recalls and 15 minutes prior to airspace closure.
  • After the last aircraft has exited the airspace and all local/non-local squadrons have confirmed they are complete (confirm via all available means),
  • Contact ATC to return the airspace
  • Acts as a bridge between range training scenarios and live flying operations providing synergy between threats and capabilities through real-time communications and digital information systems
  • Assist flight leads/mission planners in scenario development (to include exercise planning) Prepare Data for debriefings and assist with debriefings if requested
  • Support Link 16 training operations as required
  • Comply with all Company policies and Quality and Safety Procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Minimum Undergraduate Degree required; Master\'s Degree highly desired
  • Five (5) years of verifiable leadership experience
  • B-1 and B-52 Experience highly desired
  • Relevant tactical experience including radio communications highly desired
  • Any of the following Rated mission expertise/experience required; Aircraft Commander, Weapons System Officer; Air Battle Manager, Weapons Director; or Air Traffic Control (RAPCON or Tower) experience
  • Conversant or prepared to become familiar with the following publications (and relevant supplements) or subjects:
  • AFMAN 11-202V3 - Flight Operations
  • AFI 11-214 - Air Operations Rules and Procedures
  • AFMAN 11-2MDS - Aircraft-Specific Flight Rules
  • AFMAN 13-212 - Range Planning and Operations
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • US Citizen // Secret Clearance or ability to obtain is required
  • Applicants must have a valid state driver\'s license
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English
  • Be fluent in technical aircraft and electronic terminology
