West Holt Medical Services is seeking applications for our Student Nurse Extern program! Alongside an experienced RN Preceptor, this opportunity will allow application of classroom knowledge to real-world patient care while gaining valuable hands-on experience. As a vital member of the care team, you will contribute to individualized, goal-directed patient care, collaborating closely with nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals.


Your RN preceptor will design and supervise your clinical experiences while maintaining full accountability for patient care. As your skills develop, you will be given the opportunity to expand your responsibilities based on demonstrated competencies and the judgment of your preceptor. Externs are expected to bring foundational technical nursing skills typically acquired before entering the final year of nursing school. Through on-the-job training, mentorship, and skill validation, you will strengthen your clinical judgment, enhance your confidence, and gain exposure to interdisciplinary teamwork within the rural healthcare setting.


Education requirements:


Completion of high school diploma or by equivalent outside study.

Current student in an accredited school of professional nursing

BLS


Ability to apply knowledge of patient rights, safety rights, safety practices, infection control principles, and risk management issues. Ability to follow policies and procedures of department and hospital. Ability to maintain a high level of integrity, confidentiality and professionalism. Ability to work in a timely manner, within the time allotted for the shift per patient census.
