Job Summary

:

The Student Mental Health and Wellness Counselor is an integral piece of the Bethel College Student Life program. They provide individual and group counseling to students as it pertains to academic, mental health, and personal concerns. The Student Wellness Counselor will work in partnership with the VP for Student Life as a primary decision maker in issues related to a student's safety directly linked to mental or behavioral factors. They are responsible for coordinating, developing, and helping administer resources which supports and promotes a holistic approach to student wellness. As a member of the Student Life team, the Student Mental Health and Wellness Counselor will also help the department create a safe and secure campus community that fosters and supports academic success, personal growth, and respect for self, others, and community.

This position is a full-time (10-month contract) position under the supervision of the Vice President for Student Life. Specific hours will be determined in consultation with the Student Life Department. Hours will need to be accessible to students and clearly advertised.

Essential Functions

:

Support the Mission, Vision, and Values of Bethel College https://www.bethelks.edu/about-bethel/guiding-principals/

Provide Initial clinical assessments, crisis intervention, and individual/group counseling for students with academic and/or personal concerns

Assist the Student Life staff in crisis response and student safety procedures.

Community engagement and referral for students to external agencies for more intensive services.

Provide in person and online support services to current Bethel College students

Provide mental health and wellness prevention activities and resources, and follow-up support to students who are struggling with mental health and wellness.

Build alliances and collaborative relationships with local businesses, organizations, and community partners to boost student health and wellness opportunities.

Partner with MSW or Graduate programs to provide clinical supervision to social work interns.

Work in the context of creating a community inclusive of diverse populations, demonstrating Servant-Leadership, honoring ethical standards and licensing standards.

Offer consultation to college committees

Prepare reports of employment tasks, goals, and outcomes, while maintaining confidentiality.

Be an active member of the Student Life team, which means working with budgetary planning, attending Student Life staff meetings and participating in college-sponsored events.

Education & Experience

:

Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related field is required

Preference will be given to those with a clinical counseling degree/license

Work independently and take initiative to improve programs and departmental procedures

Demonstrate competence with social media platforms

Speak persuasively to large and small groups

Demonstrate a commitment to understanding and advocacy for students from various populations, specifically those that have been traditionally marginalized

Work well in a fast-paced, changing environment and adapt to new responsibilities, ideas and approaches

Respond appropriately to students in crisis, and intervene in the event of an accident or crisis situation

Read and write sufficiently to complete paperwork including, but not limited to, reports, correspondence with students, and inter-office communication

Utilize superior time-management skills to facilitate the completion of the essential job functions

Ability to perform tasks both sitting and standing for extended periods of time. Ability to function well in a standard office setting Medium/indoor work environment
