Job Description


Because of our continued success and additional opportunities with our client base, we are seeking a Structural Engineer with 3+ years of experience to join our firm.

Structural Engineers work under, or act as, the Lead Structural Engineer for our clients on a variety of projects and project types utilizing structural steel, concrete, masonry, and wood materials. Our clients are primarily architectural design firms, but also include other engineers and design professionals, contractors, building owners, and industrial facilities. This is a full-time position located in our Cedar Rapids office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design assignments using structural analysis and design software
  • Ability to determine appropriate structural systems for specific project conditions and parameters
  • Coordination of structural design work within multi-discipline project teams
  • Direct project assignments to firm Staff Engineers, Designers and Technicians
  • Investigative field work
  • Prepare contract drawings and specifications
  • Meet and interact with clients, other design team members and contractors
  • Perform construction administration services including shop drawing review and site observation visits
  • Continued development of software and design standards
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in civil / structural engineering and a strong portfolio are required. Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree a plus
  • Professional Engineers (PE) exam (SE preferred), or the ability to obtain licensure in Iowa within 2 years of employment
  • Structural design experience using steel, concrete, masonry, and wood
  • Knowledge of current building codes (IBC, ASCE, AISC, ACI, AITC, NDS)
  • Current knowledge of or ability to learn computer software including RISA, EnerCalc, Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and others as needed Competencies:
  • Adequately communicate project design options to clients, other design team members and contractors
  • Ability to communicate well with other team members to manage project tasks effectively
  • Motivated self-starter with attention to project details and tasks assigned
  • Adjust normal working conditions as required to satisfy the schedule and demands of the client and their projects
