Job Summary and Description:

EPRI is driving research on how to achieve net zero by 2050. That work is collaborative by nature and identifies pathways and the technology gaps to net zero. The information in that research can be directed upstream to influence primary research and investment that is needed in core technologies, as well as downstream to influence follow-on deployments, investment and customer engagement models to achieve scale impact. The alliances\xe2\x80\x99 role is responsible for connecting the dots between these large EPRI initiatives and the broader, global ecosystem that can deliver that large scale impact.

The Strategic Alliances Executive, maintains and expands relationships with EPRI\xe2\x80\x99s strategically important ecosystem allies, representing the entire range of EPRI expertise and capabilities to foundations, philanthropies, investment & finance organizations, NGOs, national labs and other appropriate organizations which support research, development and demonstration efforts aligned with EPRI\xe2\x80\x99s mission & vision. The key function of the Strategic Alliances Executive is to assess and align our allies\xe2\x80\x99 strategic priorities with EPRI\xe2\x80\x99s R&D portfolio and coordinate needed upstream primary research and reach new downstream allies to help accelerate and expand EPRI research and speed market adoption. The Strategic Alliances Executive develops and expands relationships that complement EPRI\xe2\x80\x99s work with our utility members by driving coordination across the innovation value chain and facilitating scale of critical innovations aligned with EPRI initiatives on a global basis. The Strategic Alliances Executive is accountable for sustained funding growth, both directly and indirectly, through engagement with allies, including grants to EPRI to fund research, demonstrations/pilots, technology applications, training, etc., as well as funding or other commitments that accrue to others but represent match funding for EPRI initiatives. The role will also be responsible for ensuring EPRI participation on ally advisory committees, developing consortiums of allies focused on particular projects/technologies, developing memorandum of understanding or other agreements, and other activities required to successfully integrate EPRI initiatives and strategic programs into project planning and deployments for community and industrial clean energy transition. The Strategic Alliances Executive possesses a level of experience that enables internal and external leadership along with the capability of representing EPRI in external situations.

This position reports to Director US Accounts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Focused on building, maintaining and expanding relationships with foundations, philanthropies and other non-utility organizations.
  • Responsible for generating new funding directly through foundation grants and/or partnerships with foundations. Meets set targets for funding and ally engagement
  • Establishes/maintains strong, productive, professional relationships at the C-suite senior management levels and all appropriate contacts throughout the ally organizations.
  • Proactively assesses, clarifies, and validates allies\xe2\x80\x99 strategic objectives on an ongoing basis to align the EPRI\xe2\x80\x99s engagement and communicates that alignment within EPRI
  • Develops and executes alliance business development plans, working with others as well as independently, to grow EPRI\xe2\x80\x99s domestic and international engagement with allies, form consortiums of allies necessary to deliver projects, and drive funding & engagement in projects for EPRI.
  • Positions EPRI expertise and capabilities as valuable and critical resources to projects mutually agreed up with allies.
  • Leads ally engagement process and coordinate with internal resources including, but not limited to, subject-matter experts, project management, sector management, contracts, finance, and US and International account teams.
  • Identify grant opportunities and lead efforts to prepare, submit and manage grant proposals that support EPRI goals and meet foundation guidelines and criteria
  • Comprehends the scope, purpose and application of research conducted by EPRI. Effectively communicates EPRI\xe2\x80\x99s research to a broad audience in both formal and informal situations.
  • Continuously develops individual knowledge level around industry and business practices, trends and/or events to substantiate his/her value to allies through knowledge and solution development.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with key leaders within industry organizations, NGO\xe2\x80\x99s and the regulatory community in assigned region to further EPRI\xe2\x80\x99s mission and grow funding.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree required or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in selling and or alliance / partnership management for complex technical solutions to the electric utility or similar industry with a demonstrated track record of success.
  • Proven track record of strategic account management and sales best practices.
  • Demonstrated track record of operating at the c-level including negotiations, business development and relationship management.
Skills and Attributes:
  • Demonstrated understanding of EPRI, its position in the industry, guiding principles, and research portfolio.
  • Demonstrated customer / ally engagement skills including an ability to quickly ascertain prospective ally\xe2\x80\x99s mission, identify areas of alignment, and craft potential engagement plans.
  • Understanding of EPRI\xe2\x80\x99s growth strategies for international expansion and new business lines and creativity in crafting alliance engagements to further those goals.
  • Proven ability to effectively engage at all levels within ally organizations, especially at executive levels.
  • Demonstrated depth of knowledge of the energy industry and clean energy technologies from both a technical and business perspective.
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work toward common goals in a team atmosphere and influence members of a cross-functional team to implement a shared business strategy.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues in a manner that influences business leaders in the electricity sector.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Expert presentation development and delivery skills.
  • Willing to travel approximately 50% of the time.
  • Strong PC skills including the full Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Superior account planning/execution skills with a demonstrable track record.
The salary range for this position is $165,750 USD to $224,250 USD annually.

This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant\'s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant\'s geographic location.

This role is eligible to participate in EPRI\xe2\x80\x99s annual incentive program. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.

This role is eligible to participate in EPRI\xe2\x80\x99s standard employee benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, vision, 401k, STD/LTD and paid family leave, life and accident insurance, paid time off (flexible vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay).

EPRI participates in E-Verify, an online system operated jointly by the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration (SSA). EPRI uses the system to check the work status of new hires by comparing information from the employee\'s I-9 form against SSA and Department of Homeland Security databases.
