Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform a wide variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair work in skilled trade disciplines. Employees in this classification perform all work according to established safety standards, codes and regulations applicable to the work. Employees in this classification have previous experience in the trade, and can perform tasks independently, though work remains subject to review and inspection during and upon completion of assigned tasks.


This is a part-time position limited to 26 hours per week scheduled as follows:


Monday: 7:00AM - 3:30PM


Tuesday-Thursday: 7:00AM - 1:30PM

Examples of Duties

Performs routine to moderately complex maintenance and repairs on structures, facilities, equipment, streets, sidewalks, bicycle paths and other City property in skilled trade disciplines. Assists in the construction and maintenance of sidewalks, ADA ramps, valley gutters and drainage systems. Assists with emergency preparedness and response. Probe and assess catch basins and culverts for preventative maintenance. Assist Vactor truck operator in maintaining catch basins, resolving flooding issues through jetting culverts. Assist in the hydro excavation of holes for bollard and sign installations as well as utility locating. Assist in clearing debris, downed trees, and other obstructions from public roadways. Operate street sweeper as needed. Maintain accurate work records and reports Follow established safety procedures and regulations.

Typical Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED. Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in semi-skilled laboring or maintenance work; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must obtain a Class "B" Florida Commercial Drivers License with Tanker Endorsement within one year of employment. Must acquire FDOT Temporary Traffic Control Intermediate Level within one year of hire. FSA Storm Water 1 and 2 Certification

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.
