Overview



The Stewarding Supervisor is responsible for managing dishwashers/porters and restaurant facilities operations. This position ensures proper sanitation of kitchen utensils, compliance with health and safety standards, and coordination with facilities vendors. The Supervisor provides direction and training to dishwashers, porters, and support staff to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient environment across the entire facility. This position reports to the Executive Chef.

Responsibilities



Supervise and train dishwashers and porters to ensure sanitation and proper storage. Maintain cleanliness in the entire facility, including kitchens, offices, storerooms, hallways, loading docks, dumpsters, bathrooms, and utility areas. Operate and oversee dishwashing equipment to ensure thorough cleaning of kitchenware, plateware, glassware, and silverware. Support the management with coordination with vendors handling repair and maintenance. Support Managers, Chefs, Front of House, with requisitions, furniture moving, setups, and event preparation and breakdown. Oversee opening and closing cleaning procedures, execution of porter tasks, and side work duties. Communicate employee issues with management, including but not limited to lateness, absences, conflicts, and violations of company policy. Ensure compliance with safety standards, including proper handling of chemicals and fire equipment. Assist with receiving and ordering responsibilities when necessary. Perform basic repairs, light bulb changes, and other facilities support tasks. Follow the daily checklist and maintain accurate records. Attend required meetings and trainings.

Qualifications



Previous experience as a Steward, Lead Steward, Lead Porter, or Porter Supervisor required. Supervisory experience preferred. Strong leadership skills with ability to direct staff effectively. Ability to work well under pressure and adapt quickly to operational needs. Basic computer skills (email, inventory systems). Flexible schedule with ability to work different shifts, morning, weekend, holidays, overnight projects, and potential overtime.

Physical Requirements



Able to stand for long periods of time (8+ hours). Able to walk up and down stairs. Able to carry up to ~50 lbs. Able to push, pull, and open doors. Able to bend, squat, and lean down. Ability to lift furniture, carry equipment, reach high and low areas, and climb ladders for basic repairs.

Professional demeanor at all times. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Effective problem-solving, multitasking, and prioritization abilities. Compliance with grooming standards, uniform requirements, and restaurant regulations. Ability to maintain confidentiality and show initiative in anticipating operational needs.
