The Dishwasher/Steward plays a crucial support role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and organization of the kitchen and back-of-house operations at Cedar Rapids Country Club. This position is responsible for ensuring all dishes, cookware, utensils, and kitchen equipment are properly cleaned and sanitized in a timely manner. The steward also assists with basic prep work, equipment upkeep, and facility cleanliness, contributing to the overall success of the culinary team and member satisfaction.
Primary Responsibilities:
Dishwashing & Sanitation
- Operate the dish machine according to sanitation standards and safety guidelines
- Wash and sanitize pots, pans, utensils, trays, and all other cooking equipment
- Sort, stack, and return clean items to appropriate areas
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dish area throughout shift
- Empty and clean garbage cans and recycling in accordance with club standards
Stewarding & Kitchen Support
- Assist chefs and cooks with basic kitchen prep and organizational tasks as needed
- Keep floors, walls, drains, and equipment in dish and prep areas clean and safe
- Help restock chemicals, tools, and cleaning supplies in designated storage locations
- Assist in receiving and storing deliveries following FIFO and storage protocols
Equipment & Facility Care
- Properly handle and maintain all dish room and cleaning equipment
- Notify management of any malfunctions or maintenance issues
- Support end-of-day kitchen cleaning and closing routines
Teamwork & Culture
- Maintain a positive, respectful attitude toward fellow team members and supervisors
- Communicate effectively and respond to direction with a sense of urgency
- Work cooperatively during busy service hours and contribute to a clean, efficient BOH environment
- Demonstrate professionalism and pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and support
Qualifications:
- Previous stewarding or dishwashing experience preferred but not required
- Must be able to work standing, lift to 50 pounds, and perform repetitive motions
- Ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed
