Responsibilities

Properly sterilize all dental instruments using autoclaves and other sterilization equipment, ensuring compliance with infection control protocols. Maintain detailed records of sterilization cycles, instrument inventory, and medical documentation in EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix or Epic. Assist with preparing treatment rooms by organizing supplies, ensuring all necessary tools are sterile and ready for procedures like endodontics, prosthodontics, or pediatric dentistry. Support chairside assisting during procedures by passing instruments efficiently while maintaining aseptic technique. Manage medical records and documentation accurately, including X-ray images, vital signs, and medical history updates in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Ensure proper handling of dental imaging equipment like X-ray machines while maintaining safety standards. Collaborate with dental reception staff to verify patient information, update medical coding details, and facilitate smooth patient flow within the clinic. Uphold infection control standards through proper hand hygiene, glove use, and sterilization procedures aligned with OSHA guidelines. Assist in training new team members on sterilization protocols and infection prevention practices to foster a culture of safety.

Experience

Prior experience working in a dental clinic environment is highly preferred, especially within general dentistry practices. Familiarity with EMR systems such as Dentrix or Epic is essential for managing medical records and documentation efficiently. Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology enhances your ability to support clinical staff effectively. Experience with dental assisting techniques including four-handed dentistry, chairside assisting, and handling dental equipment like X-ray machines or 3D scanners is advantageous. Understanding of infection control practices specific to dental clinics ensures compliance with OSHA standards. Previous exposure to HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and data security is beneficial for maintaining confidentiality. Certification in basic life support (BLS) or CPR is a plus but not mandatory; willingness to obtain certification is encouraged.
