Position Summary

The Sterile Processing Technician (SPD) plays a critical role in ensuring patient safety and supporting surgical efficiency by properly cleaning, assembling, sterilizing, and storing instruments and equipment. This position works closely with OR and clinical staff to maintain compliance with AAAHC, OSHA, and AAMI standards.

Responsibilities

Decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments, trays, and equipment. Operate and maintain autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, and other SPD equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines. Monitor sterilization cycles, document load records, and perform biological indicator testing per policy. Maintain accurate inventory of instruments, trays, and disposables; communicate needs for repair or replacement. Ensure adherence to infection prevention, safety, and quality assurance standards. Collaborate with the OR team to prioritize turnover and support daily surgical schedules. Participate in quality improvement, equipment checks, and safety audits as part of the center's QAPI program.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. CRCST or CSPDT certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within 12 months). Prior sterile processing or central supply experience (1+ year preferred). Knowledge of sterile technique, infection control, and instrument identification. Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently under time constraints. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Pay: $23.39 - $28.17 per hour
