STEM INSTRUCTOR/STEM TEACHER

STATEMENT OF JOB:

The STEM Tech II provides therapeutic and recreational services by

organizing, planning, and implementing SEL behavioral health support to children and

adolescents enrolled or eligible to be enrolled with Apache Behavioral Health Services Inc.

(ABHS). This position provides therapeutic services by organizing, planning, and implementing

SEL support in the school classroom and during the summer and other out-of-school events. This

is primarily accomplished by implementing SEL curriculum within the ABHS STEM program.

This position is responsible for implementation of individualized behavioral life skills lessons for

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) behavioral plans within the context of the ABHS STEM

program in school or community-based environments. The STEM Tech collaborates with

Instructors/Teachers in a STEM hands-on classroom environment with the integration of

individual and small group SEL support. The goal of the STEM Tech is to address ABHS client

treatment goals within the STEM hands-on environment within STEM school and out-of-school

events.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



1. Coordinate and document a minimum of 15-20 client interactions weekly

2. Provides therapeutic services assistance to ABHS clinical staff, including, but not limited to,

school and community visits, appointment coordination, outreach services for clients having

difficulty accessing services, and/or for reengagement in treatment services.

3. Facilitates group and individual life skills training and behavioral health educational

programs in coordination with ABHS clinician, including, but not limited to client walk-in

services.

4. Facilitates behavioral health promotion programs and individual, group, and family

counseling sessions in coordination with ABHS clinical staff.

5. Documents contact with clients in order to assess needs, maintain required paperwork and

engage family members in accordance with Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System

(AHCCCS) and ABHS Standards.

6. Work directly with ABHS supervisors in the development, implementation, and evaluation of

life skills initiatives and curriculum;

7. Provide consistent communication with parents, teachers, and ABHS supervisors on the

integration of life skill activities for assigned youth;

8. Assist in coordinating, organizing, and implementing special ABHS-sponsored or -supported

events/activities, including before school, after school, during lunch, on weekends, holidays

and summer break.

9. Support the implementation of STEM SEL curricula for K-12 Students; working directly

with STEM Instructors and Teachers.

10. Participate in the classroom environment including project setup and cleanup.

11. Work directly with Instructors and Teachers to review, provide input, and support plans to

implement STEM SEL curricula into existing courses, and help to develop and integrate SEL

into new projects.

12. Provide consistent communication with STEM SEL developers, ABHS School Therapists,

and BHT (School Coaches) in the delivery of Behavioral Health services of ABHS enrolled

clients.

13. Ability to work with a variety of computer technologies to effectively communicate

regarding the implementation of the STEM SEL program.

14. Collaborates with court/probation, tribal/community agencies, educators, families and other

natural support systems to ensure client's needs are met. Develops a strong working

relationship with community partners.

15. Participation in all required ABHS training including ongoing clinical oversight.

16. Abide by all applicable policies, procedures, and program standards of ABHS, White

Mountain Apache Tribe, Indian Health Services, Arizona Health Care Cost Containment

System (AHCCCS) and other pertinent regulatory authorities.

17. Maintain ethical policies and guidelines as outlined in accepted State ethics laws, rules,

policies and principles and as outlined in discipline-specific code of ethics.

18. Provide a positive role model to clients and staff through leadership, self-discipline, and

genuine care for the treatment and recovery of clients. All clients and staff members must be

treated with dignity and respect.

19. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



1. 21 years of age and possession of a high school diploma or high school equivalent diploma

and 18 credit hours of post-high school education in a field related to behavioral health

completed no more than four years before the date the individual begins providing behavioral

health services and two years of full time behavioral health work experience; or high school

diploma or high school equivalency diploma and four years of full time behavioral health

work experience. Associates/Bachelors degree in mental health/human services or related

field preferred; experience working with Native Americans preferred.

2. Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to speak the Apache language

preferred.

3. Demonstrate strong critical thinking, problem-solving and organizational and time

management skills.

4. Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively with a wide range of people,

teams, managers, supervisors, including basic knowledge in supervising and evaluating staff

5. Valid Arizona Driver's License and reliable transportation.

6. MS Office proficiency and ability to correctly operate copy machine and fax.

7. Ability to pass all pre-employment testing, including, but not limited to, fingerprint

clearance, drug testing and background check.
