Job Description

• Under direct supervision, assists in doing work relating to piping and equipment for heating, air conditioning, compressed air, and processing systems; performs related work.
• Assists in the installation, maintenance and repair of piping and equipment in air, steam and hot water heating, air conditioning and processing systems.
• Assists in the installation of boilers, and feedwater, vacuum and condensate equipment.
• Assists in the installation of fuel oil piping and related equipment.
• Assists in taking on-the-job measurements and lays out work from plans, specifications and/or sketches.
• May drive a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties.

Minimum Qual Requirements

1. Three years of full-time satisfactory mechanical experience as a Steam Fitter\xe2\x80\x99s Helper acquired within the last 10 years; or
2. At least one and one-half years of full-time satisfactory mechanical experience as a Steam Fitter\xe2\x80\x99s Helper acquired within the last 10 years plus sufficient training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade, vocational or technical high school to make up the equivalent of three years of acceptable experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of approved trade, vocational or technical school.

Preferred Skills

1. Possession of Class A Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York.
2. Experience in working with diverse teams in an urban setting.
3. Willing to work in inclement weather and able to perform intense and physically demanding work.
4. Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, equipment, and techniques of the trade.
5. Ability to keep records of activities performed.
6. Ability to read and understand blueprints and drawings.
7. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
8. Ability to locate, diagnose, and correct defects and malfunctions on a variety of heat system equipment.
9. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
10. Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials of the trade.
11. Ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours.

Additional Information

License Requirement
For appointment to positions in certain agencies, a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York is required. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
