FT 6:45pm - 7:15am



Essential Functions:

1. Give patient baths, oral care and hair care.

2. Take vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressures).

3. Collect I & O information.

4. Ambulate patients.

5. Assist with activities in patient mobility and positioning.

6. Collection of specimens.

7. Obtain blood glucose readings.

8. Initiate CPR.

9. Communicate with patient and/or family. Provide information to the patient and /or family to educate them on disease process, hospital stay, and/or treatments. Communicate with patient and/or family and meet patient needs for courtesy, information, physical care, emotional care, safety, privacy, and confidentiality.

10. Transport patients by pushing pulling, lifting, in a wheelchair, bed, cart or Geri chair.

11. Reposition patients with or without mechanical devices, by lifting, pulling and pushing.

12. Clearly and concisely report significant patient status changes to the physician.

13. Collection of patient care information.

14. Development and revision of nursing care plan.

15. Administer medications including narcotics according to SBAMH policies and procedures.

16. Document patient information concisely and legibly according to hospital and department policy.

17. Dressing changes.

18. Administer treatments.

19. Clearly and concisely report significant patient status changes to physician and appropriate co-workers.

20. Responsible and accountable for using work time appropriately by organizing and prioritizing work to complete daily assignment.

21. Follow patient-specific plan of care.

22. Administer IV's and IV medications.

23. Start IVs.

24. Assess the patient.

25. Follow all infection control procedures and policies (including use of universal/standard precautions).

26. Provide for patient safety.

27. Participate in quality improvement assurance, assessment and improvement activities.

28. Notify receiving nursing area of patient's condition and needs prior to transfer.

29. Participates in the orientation and teaching of newly employed nursing personnel.

30. Participates in nursing projects and/or revision and review of policies and procedures.

31. Positive and effective interaction with patients, significant others, and other health team members, while maintaining standards of professional nursing.

32. Performs other duties as assigned.



Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



"Will be orientated to and maintain competence in working with patients in the following age categories: Med/Surg/Skilled/ICU: Infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. OB: Neonate, adolescent, and adult patients. OR, ED: Neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Competence at the beginning of employment will be measured through observation during orientation, math and medication administration testing, and review of documentation. Ongoing competence will be measured through observation of clinical practice, observation for performance evaluation, competency in-service and testing, and math and medication administration testing. See attached sheet for other initial and ongoing competence required by each department."



Education:



Graduate of a State Board approved or accredited school of nursing.



Experience:



Must possess current clinical experience or be a new nursing graduate. Prefer minimum of one year's experience in pertinent clinical specialty. Nurses who do not meet this requirement must obtain experience through formal hospital orientation program.



Certification/Licensure:



Must possess evidence of current Kansas license or valid temporary permit to practice (if coming from out of state).



Code Blue Training:



a. A minimum training level of BLS is required. b. Acquire and maintain ACLS training for ED and ICU c. Acquire and maintain Neonatal resuscitation training for OB.

Physical Demands:

Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and grasping. Requires lifting and carrying up to 55 lbs. Requires pushing and pulling up to 55 lbs. Job requires full range of body motion, with occasional twisting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, squatting and reaching. Rarely requires crawling. Job may require reaching overhead. Job requires ability to handle and lift patients. Eye-hand coordination, and finger and manual dexterity are required. Requires corrected hearing and vision to a normal range. Job requires working under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours. Some exposure to communicable diseases, sharps, and hazardous material is anticipated. Job requires potential exposure to body fluids and radiation. Requires the ability to distinguish letters and symbols. Use of office equipment such as telephones, copying machines, computers and intercom is required. Repetitive movements such as writing are required.



Working Conditions:

Includes working weekends and holidays, with potential for varied shifts, overtime, cost containment absent days, or standby time. O.R. personnel are required to rotate on-call duty for emergency surgery.
