Summary The Systems Technology Integration (STI) Section is inventing the future of flight and advancing propulsion capability in the emerging fields of Advanced Air Mobility, next generation rotorcraft, and military drones. STI's focus is advancing technologies for new/derivative propulsion and airframe concepts through demonstrator rig test, engine ground test, engine flight test, and certification/qualification campaigns. We collaborate with innovative aircraft manufacturers to facilitate groundbreaking improvements in aviation technology and eco-friendly air transportation solutions. Technology areas include hybrid electric propulsion systems (Turbogenerators), engine integration in demonstrator manned/unmanned aircraft, advanced material systems, and other breakthrough component and system technologies to support the future of flight.
The Systems Technology Mechanical Design Staff Engineer will execute and lead aspects of the mechanical design and development of a new GE turbogenerator product as a hardware Owner and domain expert. This job is for a passionate engineering problem solver who has deep domain expertise in the design process, leads resolution of technical challenges, and fosters teamwork and collaboration. Mechanical design roles are needed in structural design, mechanical systems design, and external configurations design.
As a hardware owner in the Module Design Subsection, you will be the focal for the maturation of cold section engine components that integrate into a hybrid electric turbogenerator propulsion system. You will create designs that support both ground and flight testing for demonstrator and certification purposes, allowing you to experience the entire design process from initial concept through to final product realization. In this capacity you will exercise and develop core engineer skills including 3D modeling, finite element analysis, high cycle & low cycle fatigue assessments, mechanical stack-ups and drawing definition release. In addition, a staff engineer is expected to lead cross-functional teams to establish boundary conditions, assess material and manufacturing capabilities, recommend design concepts/changes to optimize across a range of requirements, and propose actions to meet overall program technical/cost/schedule requirements. Designs will be developed in support of future test and certification efforts, and the scope of the role will also include development of producibility and supportability strategies. As a Staff Engineer, you will lead design efforts with guidance from experienced Controlled Title Holders in a mission-based team environment. The certification process for these new technologies will involve working closely with regulatory bodies to ensure that the hybrid electric system meets all necessary safety and performance standards. This position reports to an engineering manager in Lynn, MA with the opportunity to integrate with various internal & external engineering disciplines.
