Your Responsibilities

As a Staff Engineer, Product Development for John Deere Des Moines Works located in Ankeny, IA, you will develop components and assemblies for high strength and low mass boom structural systems, delivering high value in precision agriculture. In addition, you will:

  • Coach and mentor engineering team members in process, design approach, problem resolution and design validation with expertise in structural design, analysis and PDP execution.
  • Be a leader within a highly aligned development team, delivering structural and control system innovation with global team members and suppliers, utilizing multiple material solutions, such as carbon fiber and other light weight materials to create world class sprayers.
  • Lead development of product design guidelines and Engineering Analysis Procedures for Boom Development to create and educate product engineering team members.

What Skills You Need
  • 10 or more years\' experience with test and analysis procedures, applying to design change, including stress test and FEA data
  • 10 or more years\' experience in using engineering tools such as Creo, Windchill, Hypermesh and Netweaver
  • 10 or more years\' experience executing engineering change management process through Continuous Improvement or Product Development Process
  • 5 or more years\' experience designing with mixed material structures, including but not limited to aluminum, steel and composite materials
  • 10 or more years\' experience working in a global team and/or a cross functional team within mechanical equipment design
  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and/or internationally, based on business needs
What Makes You Stand Out
  • Performance Engineering experience
  • Experience creating and evaluating complex geometry and mechanisms in Creo
  • Experience utilizing reliability data to inform design change
  • Experience within another John Deere location, product or function
  • Experience using Tableau or other suite of database tools
  • Formal systems engineering training and application
  • Experience in hydraulics design or controls design
  • Advanced Engineering or Systems Degree
Education

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Mechanical, Agricultural or Systems Engineering
