As a staff level attorney, the incumbent is expected to handle legal assignments, with varying degrees of legal complexity that have significant impact on cases involving the state. The incumbent provides day-to-day legal representation to the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services in civil child protective proceedings in the family division of the Third Judicial Circuit Court. Under the supervision of the Division Chief and the First Assistant, the incumbent drafts pleadings, briefs, and formal and informal legal opinions on behalf of the client agency in state trial and appellate courts, and if necessary, in federal court. The incumbent assists in the coordination of activities and/or formal or informal mentoring of less experienced staff by serving as a resource person. The incumbent may also be called upon to participate in special projects as assigned.

Possession of a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law.

Experience
Four years of post-bar admission legal experience.

Vacation and Sick Leave: Eligible full-time employees receive between 15 and 35 personal days and 13 sick days per year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.
